The "Alte Schule Kirmutscheid" is a 190-year-old building in a secluded location. The school is located in the middle of the nature reserve in the forest. The building is listed both inside and outside. A small stream flows behind and in front of the school. It is the right place for nature lovers, but also for Nürburgring visitors, which is only a few minutes' drive away. You will live in the old school alone. The space Due to the strict historic preservation regulations, you can sense the atmosphere in which earlier generations lived. If you expect contemporary comforts, this is the wrong place for you. But those who love the flair of authentic old buildings will enjoy it very much here. The teacher's apartment has a large outdoor terrace with an enclosed, shaded sitting area with a barbecue. It is not accessible from the house, but you have to go out the front door and walk around to the back of the house. From the terrace, you can go directly down to the Trierbach via a natural stone staircase. The view from the terrace is unobstructed and extends across the Trierbach into the meadow and forest landscape. The terrace is fenced, but it is not suitable for leaving dogs there unattended. The house was furnished in accordance with historic preservation guidelines. The bathroom is a 70-year-old one-of-a-kind and deserves to be called a "(bath)room." In the large bedroom, there is an old, hand-carved wedding bed. The two bedrooms behind it have been combined into one room, which is divided by the half-timbered framework. Heating is provided by an 8 kW pellet stove with a thermostat that ignites automatically and maintains the temperature. One should not expect the temperatures that are standard in today's rental apartments. A room temperature above 19 degrees Celsius can only be achieved by using a large amount of expensive pellets. The doors are 200 years old and do not close tightly, and the windows are very large and single-paned. If this is too cold for you, you shouldn't rent it. Modern comforts are not to be found here, as the house is intended to be authentic, and a mix of old and new styles is not desired. Important: Following the issuance of Airbnb's new policies, I am compelled to require a mandatory security deposit of €120 before handing over the house key. The key will not be handed over without this deposit. Since I deliberately refrain from charging a flat cleaning fee so as not to make the stay unnecessarily more expensive, and since I also don't want to have guests who don't clean up their own mess, I will refund the deposit to all those who leave the apartment as they found it. The bed linens should be left on the beds, and the trash should be sorted and thrown into the trash cans. Dishes must be washed clean and put away, work surfaces must of course be cleaned, the toilet must also be cleaned and not left soiled with feces, and the living spaces themselves should be left swept clean. Anyone who does not do this will forfeit the security deposit or should not move in at all. This drastic description is intended to deter guests who believe they have carte blanche to behave badly due to Airbnb's new policies. I just want to weed them out, and I am also prepared to remove my listing from Airbnb at any time if this company believes it can impose rules on me as a landlord regarding my apartments. From November to April, the Old School is rented out for only 2 people, as the bedrooms with the other two beds cannot be heated. Dogs cost €4/night each, electricity €0.36/kWh, wood pellets €10/bag, payable on site. Guest access The apartment is on the first floor and is the only apartment in the schoolhouse. Behind the house is a spacious terrace with a covered seating area. Unfortunately, I had to remove the grill, as guests repeatedly lit a fire with logs in it, which is strictly forbidden at that point, since the fire could spread to the wooden beams there at any time. Other things to note Dogs are welcome guests and cost €4/dog/night (payable on site). Electricity is billed at €0.36/kWh at the end of the stay. Fuel for the pellet stove is billed at €10 per 15 kg bag at the end of the stay. A church service is held every 14 days in the neighboring church, which is over 500 years old. In the outbuilding of the schoolhouse (Dwarf School), there is also a vacation apartment, but it is completely separated from the Old School both spatially and in terms of the outdoor area. In summer, on public holidays and weekends, you can hear the traffic coming and going on the B258 to the nearby Nürburgring.
