Please find enclosed some information that will hopefully help you to plan and enjoy your holiday. Here is an itinerary from Ottawa – two options both are good. Please note the following correction however: after you turn right on to Downey's Bay road, in about 1 KM you will turn left on Tapp Road and in 300M left on Horseshoe Bay Road. Go up the big hill and the cottage is on the right. The Cottages 7 and 9 share a driveway. I would suggest a visit to the Fort Coulonge Chutes and Aerial Park that is about 30 minutes from the cottage. To get to Fort William backtrack up Lighthouse road to the top of the hill then turn right on Sarah road and keep to the left until you come to a stop, then turn right and the Fort will be on your right. It is about a 5 minute drive. If you are interested in horseback riding there is a stable close by. There is dépanneur (corner store) called Conroy’s Groceries in Chapeau Quebec located on ile-aux-Allumettes about 15 minutes from the cottage. In the village you will find a wonderful bakery Karl’s Bakery and a restaurant and microbrewery called the Ancienne Banque both are fantastic. There is a regional art gallery in the old presbytery and a farmer’s market at the community hall/ activity grounds. I have included the web site for the Ottawa Valley Travel guide. Pembroke is only 40 minutes from the cottage and has all that you need, cinema, shopping, restaurants and drug stores. You will see that I have included some info on bears. This is not too scare you but there have been bear sightings in the area close to the cottage. This is not a common occurrence but can happen as we are in their habitat.
