Johnnycake Flats is a family owned B&B, an 1800's farmhouse and former stagecoach stop. Three inviting guest rooms, each with private baths and great views. All stays include yummy, homemade breakfasts, using organic and local ingredients. The Train Room has a queen bed, private bath and can accommodate 2-3 persons, with an added air bed. This room is for train buffs, being gently rocked twice a day as the 'Vermonter' rolls on by. The decor includes several quilts created by Debra and an unusual corner hutch which houses a small library. Great foliage views! A full breakfast is included with each stay. (Nightly rate is $155.00, for 2 persons and $200.00, for 3 persons, plus 9% VT tax) Our common room welcomes guests with a cozy wood stove, board games and plenty of reading material. There are 16 acres to explore, photograph or paint, including a frog pond, vegetable and flower gardens, fields and forest. Toby, our friendly Border Collie is glad to show guests around or play an energetic game of frisbee. Guests have access to a refrigerator, microwave, BBQ grill, tea/coffee, snacks, campfire ring, snowshoes, cooler, day packs, private entrance, secure storage for skis & bicycles and free parking. WiFi and TV are complimentary. Our B & B is also our home and we heartily welcome guests to enjoy themselves while respecting each others' privacy. We are available to meet and greet, provide refreshments upon arrival, assist with dinner, activity planning and travel recommendations. Tour de Moon snowshoe tours, quilting and preserving workshops can be arranged with advance notice. (Separate fee for each.) We live in a peaceful, quiet valley, surrounded by the Roxbury State Forest. Sightings of moose, bear and turkey are not uncommon. Roxbury is a small town, home to ~700 people, a country store, P.O., elementary school, a library (a must see), Windridge Camp and Frazier's Greenhouse (another must see). Uncrowded bicycling, hiking, fly fishing, alpine skiing, (Mad River Glen & Sugarbush), cross and backcountry skiing and golf are nearby. Close to Norwich University, Vermont Technical College, Ben & Jerry's, several of Vermont's microbreweries (Bent Hill, Lawson's and Paine Mountain) and the towns of Montpelier (state capital), Randolph, Waitsfield and Warren. Geographically located in the center of the state, makes it convenient to get around and sample all that Vermont has to offer. No public transportation per se, however we are willing to provide transportation within reason, upon prior arrangement. Our location is a perfect opportunity for star gazing, given that there is virtually no light pollution here. Come see the Milky Way, perhaps for the very first time! Impromptu campfires in the fire ring are always a big hit. Johnnycake Flats is designated a "Green Hotel" by the Agency of Natural Resources. This means we follow environmentally friendly practices such as recycling, composting, towel/linen reuse, efficiency lighting and chemical use reduction.
