The space From 1969 to 2017, bridge house Meeuwenpleinbrug accommodated the city’s bridge keepers, who opened and closed the bridge for passing waterway traffic. In 2017, when the local government centralized bridge control, the bridge house started a new chapter as one of the 28 suites of SWEETS hotel. As with every SWEET, Meeuwenpleinbrug's interior is inspired by its architectural history. Architect 1969: Dirk Sterenberg Architect 2017: Space&Matter Architectural Style: Structuralism Bridge Type: Drawbridge The Meeuwenpleinbrug (bridge) over the North Holland Canal was built in 1969, designed by Dirk Sterenberg, and is situated near the northern entrance of the IJ Tunnel. The Meeuwenpleinbrug bridge house can be regarded as a simpler variant of the Hortusbrug bridge house in the old part of the city. The former bridge control office was connected to the road via a staircase on the south side. Guest access Guests have access to the entire bridge house, including a double bed (160x200cm), a toilet, a shower and coffee & tea facilities. The entrance is unlocked with the guest's own smartphone, by making use of a mobile key app and Bluetooth. Other things to note Listen to your favourite music by connecting your phone to the provided Bluetooth speaker. A basic cleaning check is done every two days. Please note that the bridge is still fully operational and might open and close during your stay. It is a unique experience to wave at the ships passing by, but be careful when going outside.
