Guest access The municipality of Suances is known as the ancient Portus Blendium of the Romans. Currently it is an eminently tourist town as it has privileged beaches such as Playa de la Ribera or La Riberuca and the most famous among surfers, Playa de los Locos, but this municipality is much more than a sun and beach destination. Certain artistic manifestations such as the Casa de los Polanco, the Cueva de "Las Brujas" or the La Mota de Tres Palacios site are part of Suances' cultural heritage. The Isla de los Conejos, Pasiega or Solita are part of its coastal landscape. These are the places you should visit during your stay so you don't miss a single bit of the municipality: ★ Playa de La Concha (Suances): Attached to the apartment. It is the most accessible beach in Suances so in turn, it is the busiest. About a kilometer long and with fine golden sand, it has a promenade that surrounds it that has all the amenities required to visit it as a family. ★ Playa de los Locos: It is one of the best beaches in Spain for surfing, hence the youthful atmosphere that predominates on the beach. With intense waves due to its exposure to the open sea, its blue and clean waters make it one of the most beautiful in the town of Suances. It is surrounded by high cliffs but can be accessed via a staircase. In the upper area it also has a large parking area, bars and restaurants that make it so that even if you are not specifically going to surf, you can enjoy the stunts of those who do go or magnificent sunsets with all the comfort. ★ El Sable Beach (Tagle): Located in the town of Tagle, it consists of about 200 meters of fine golden sand. It is usually not very crowded, so it is perfect to visit with children. ★ Playa de la Ribera: Located in the final stretch of the Suances estuary or the San Martín de la Arena estuary, it is an urban beach about 150 meters long, perfect for a dip. Playa de la Riberuca: This beach, despite being practically urban due to its proximity to the town of Suances, has a low influx of people. Its waters are calm but it does not have any kind of service. -- Perfect for pets --. ★ La Tablía Beach: 80 meters long, this beach has a medium/low degree of occupancy. This is mainly due to the fact that there is a slope to access it and it has a strong swell when exposed to the open sea. ★ Puerto de Suances: Known as "Portus Blendium" during Roman times, it was the most important route of penetration of Roman Spain towards the Cantabrian coast. During the 16th and 17th centuries, fishing was the economic base of the municipality, nowadays, however, it has lost a lot of weight and recreational boats predominate in the port instead of fishing boats. ★ Casa de los Polanco: Located in Plaza Viares, it was built in 1646 and is part of the historical heritage of Suances. In Baroque style, it is one of the most notable buildings in the urban center. ★ The Cave of "Las Brujas" of Suances: The discoveries of this cave date from the 19th century and inside there are remains of sigillata, handmade ceramics and most impressive, human bones. In addition, on its walls you can see distinctive lawns in "macarroni" style, some painted with the fingertips bathed in clay. Legend has it that, for centuries, a caravan of death and mysteries left this cave in which a troop of witches and sorceresses traveled, cursing everything in their path. We don't know if this is true, but what is true is that this cave has to be one of your mandatory stops during your visit to Suances. La Mota de Tres Palacios site: This site corresponds to an atypical construction of the area of the peninsula although, it was in the landscapes of Northern Europe. Located in the village of Hinojedo, it is a tubular structure on which a defensive tower surrounded by a double wall was erected. The Lighthouse and the Walls of El Torco: These buildings formerly served as protection of the entrance to the port of Suances and currently form, after its remodeling, a must for any visitor or local who wants to feel the sea, appreciate beautiful views and even, throw the cane to the sea. La Punta del Dichoso: Next to the Suances Lighthouse, the locals know it as the White Rock. From this peninsula you can enjoy impressive views of the Cantabrian West Coast, the San Martín estuary, the Playa de los Caballos and the Isla de los Conejos. Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de las Lindes: This charming church built between 1600 and 1610, forms one of the most important elements of the architectural heritage of Suances. One of your stops during your stay in Suances with which to know the past of the municipality, beyond a tourist destination of sun and beach. Islas de los Conejos, Pasiega and Casilda, Segunda and Solita: These five islands are part of the coastal landscape of Suances. Although difficult to access, if you have the opportunity to take a boat tour of any of them, do not waste it. Rías de Suances or San Martín de la Arena: Formerly called the Requejada estuary, it is an estuary on the central coast of Cantabria that separates Suances, Polanco and Miengo, as well as being the mouth of the Saja River. At the mouth of this estuary is the port of Suances, which enjoyed great importance and activity in terms of whaling and commercial activity during the 12th and 17th centuries. Navigable to some extent, it should be included in your itinerary. Other things to note ★ Crib available for the little ones. -- Free -- We want you to enjoy your stay in our apartment. Please note that due to the beachfront location, there may be noise from the street (terraces, pubs, people walking).
