Guest access Built on a meander of the Auvézère river, Segur le Chateau was a major centre in the Middle Ages and classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France. Ruins of the 12C castle can still be seen in the town, as well as half-timbered houses and remains of a Court of Appeal. The village is famous for its night markets throughout July and August and holds many events throughout the year. It also has 3 restaurants with terraces, a fabulous tea room and a tourist office. 15 km away you have Pompadour, famous for its castle, offered by Louis XV to his mistress Jeanne Le Normant d'Etiolles. Pompadour is also renowned as the home of France's National Stud, as well as a Mare Farm, unique in France. Horse-racing, cross-country racing and steeple-chases take place here from the last weekend in June to September. 15km in the opposite direction and you can visit medieval town of Saint Yrieix la Perche with it’s Limoges porcelain shops. Further afield, the Dordogne offers many attractions perfect for a day out.
