Forest Retreat on the St. Regis River

This is a rustic cabin, built on the site of an old sugar house. Its main draw is that it's in the woods. You'll often hear owls, coyotes and other woodland creatures at night and see deer, turkey, and grouse if you walk the woods. The space Please be aware that it’s an authentic handmade log cabin built on an old rubble foundation so it will never be white-glove clean and you can expect to find spiders and the occasional field mouse inside. The downstairs is cool but humid, so a fan and dehumidifier run continuously to reduce the impacts. As noted, there is a double bed and a sofa bed in the common space. Note that the sofa bed is a futon and may not be as comfortable as the double bed. I supply sheets for the main bedroom but please plan on bringing full-size sheets or sleeping bags and pillows if you intend to use the sofa bed. Unfortunately, the chimney is cracked so the wood stove isn't usable. There are several small, electric space heaters but be aware that it can be a tad chilly on the shoulder seasons. Finally, the bathroom is downstairs and the bedroom is upstairs and the two are connected with a narrow spiral stair. Some people have found this challenging and, like any unprotected stair, it can be a hazard to small children. Guest access There are 65 acres of woods including some along the St. Regis River. There's a desk and the cabin has even been used as a recording studio in the past. Note that there is a cleaning fee. I've tried to keep the daily price low and charge for cleaning. I am using AirBnB's guidelines on cleaning which takes a little longer than it used to. Other things to note If you have questions about the place, please email me. I usually can answer the email within a few hours unless I'm out of cell phone range. I know there has been some grumbling about AirBnB's fees so I wanted to say that I have kept my nightly rate low because I have a cleaning fee. In addition, AirBnB collects local taxes on my behalf and pays them to the county. Neither of us has the option to opt out :-).
