Description

Escape to your own Appalachian sanctuary on 7 private acres. Enjoy a creek, a seasonal 40’ waterfall, hot tub, sweeping mountain views, and a 1-mile private trail—all with an easy drive to Lake Lure, Black Mountain, and Asheville. Inside: 5 bedrooms, a large, fully equipped kitchen, and stylish mid-century modern spaces made for family gatherings and relaxed time together. House rules: no big parties or loud activity. Low-key micro weddings are welcome (up to 20 guests, quiet hours respected). The space Big Rock Falls is our 7-acre private mountain retreat—part home, part emerging farm—built right into the side of the mountain so it feels immersed in nature the second you arrive. You’ll have the kind of privacy that’s hard to find, plus an easy drive to Asheville (and Lake Lure / Black Mountain). The house is two levels: you enter on the main level, then head downstairs to the second level, almost like the home is tucked into the hillside. There are multiple places to spread out with two living rooms (both with pull-out couches), and you’ll find TVs throughout, plus toys and kid books so families can actually settle in. Outside is where people really exhale. There’s plenty of open yard/pasture space for kids to run, a fire pit for s’mores, and a hot tub with a view that’s especially good at night. Our favorite hangout is the Hammock House—an outdoor lounge space made for naps, cards, and long conversations. And yes, we also have a kid climbing gym to burn off energy. And then there’s the waterfall. Big Rock Falls is a private, seasonal ~40’ waterfall on the property. Important note: it’s seasonal and intermittent—in dry stretches it can run dry, and after storms it can run so hard you may hear it from the house. Welcome to Appalachia. :) It’s a wild, natural feature—beautiful to visit, but not something to climb on or approach closely. Please follow posted signage and treat it like you would in a state park. The home is set up to comfortably host big family groups (without feeling cramped), with a well-stocked kitchen and lots of flexible sleeping options: The Primary (Master) has a king bed plus a fold-out twin chair. The Yellow Room has a queen bed + crib. The Green Room has one queen. The Blue Room has two queens plus a portable wooden crib on wheels. And the Floral Bunk Room is the fun one: a full bed plus a full/twin bunk—it’s an interior room with no window, and the wall has architectural cutouts with a curtain (it does have a door; it’s just not a solid wall all the way across). The storage area off that room includes several air mattresses. This place is ideal for family reunions, holidays, cookouts, stargazing, hiking, and slow mornings—and it also works great for a quiet team offsite that wants nature without losing convenience. A couple quick guardrails: no loud parties. Seriously. We do allow low-key micro weddings/elopements up to 20 guests—quiet, respectful, and simple. If that’s what you’re planning, message us and we’ll help you think it through. Guest access Full access to everything except 2 locked owners closets and the locked garage and barn. Note: 4-wheel drive required - no exceptions - in ice, snow or other winter conditions. Other things to note We do not allow any cats at the property due to extreme allergies and out of respect for future guests who may also have allergies. We charge a very large fine if a cat is brought to the property. This is authentically in the country. That means: You assume liability for your actions. Hiking, mountain biking, strolling near the creek, and other activities you do in the woods are dangerous. We are NOT liable for your actions. BE CAREFUL, especially around water. In flooding, the creek may rise to dangerous levels rapidly and without warning. We have critters! This region is especially popular with bears, who definitely, absolutely come to our property. Do NOT leave food or trash outside. You may also see bugs, snakes, bunnies, and countless other types of animals, if you sit quiet and watch. We have about a half-mile gravel road. 4-wheel drive REQUIRED in and for several days after inclement weather, and recommended always. The power may go out in a storm. Crews are almost always there within an hour or so. When the power is out, the well is out. No firearms may be used on the property, not even for sighting, sorry hunters. No foraging, sorry foragers. No film or production without express written permission from the hosts in advance of booking. No commercial use without express written permission from the hosts in advance of booking. No rock climbing without express written permission from the hosts in advance of booking. A/C is provided by seasonal window units. Heat is provided by a combination of floorboard heaters and a mini-split in the master bedroom.
