We have a dog run and pets are allowed inside too! The space This is a renovated 150 year old farmhouse located at the base of Mount Madarao and backing directly onto the Chikuma River. The Chikuma River, also known as the Shinano River, is the longest in Japan and flows from the mountain areas of Nagano and Yamanashi and ends at the Japan Sea in Niigata. It is around 360 km long. The great thing about Madarao Farm is that you get the whole property and facilities to yourself, with your friends and family! As an approximate estimate we base our long term stays on the following guidelines: 1 week 100000 yen 2 weeks 160000 yen 3 weeks 21000 yen 1 month 240000 yen Madarao Farm has a wood fire stove to keep warm and relax by in colder weather. There are three rooms with tatami mats and one western style bedroom, with a queen size bed. Sleeping for four is provided in the tatami rooms on futons. There is also a couch and fold out sofa bed. There is a reverse cycle air conditioner in the main bedroom. There is a bathroom with shower and bath, but also a beautiful public hot spring about 3 km away (Momijiso Onsen). Also the amazing Shibuonsen hot spring town is only 25 minutes away by car. The house has a large renovated dining room and dining table that is the at the center of the house for meals and entertaining. The house can accommodate 6 people comfortably. The property is located on a scenic part of the Chikuma river and surrounded by a country garden with a fire pit, vegetable garden and BBQ area. A BBQ and wood chip smoker is available to use. Two mountain bikes are also provided for guest use and are excellent for touring around the local area. It is close to a number of world class ski resorts, including Shigakogen, which is the largest ski area in Asia! Nozawaonsen Ski Resort is also only around 30 minutes drive away. There are also golf courses, including Madarao Kogen Country Club, which is 5 minutes drive away. Madarao Farm is also close to the famous Jigokudani Monkey Park, where the Japanese macaque monkeys bathe in natural hot springs. Near to the monkey park is the traditional hot spring town of Shibuonsen. We are also only 15 minutes from the historic town of Obuse. There is also the Joshin-etsu Kogen national park in Shigakogen and many other mountains close by for hiking, including Mount Madarao, which is an easy 15 minute drive away. High quality tennis courts are also close by for tennis. There are two convenience stores within 2 kilometers for buying supplies. Overall it is a fantastic place to kick back, relax, and experience traditional country Japanese village life. Guest access Access is open to all areas of the property except the garage. There is however outside parking for up to three cars. We have WiFi and Internet. There is a large screen TV with Apple TV and access to satellite TV. Through Apple TV there is a Netflix account for both English and Japanese movie and TV programming. We have high speed broadband (called 'hikari' in Japanese) that means that Internet is fast and stable. There is also a reverse cycle air conditioner and wood fire stove. We also provide charcoal BBQ, wood chip smoker, fire pit, 2 mountain bikes, fishing equipment, tennis rackets and golf clubs on request. Guests are also permitted to use vegetables from our organic vegetable garden. We also have a washing machine, fully equipped kitchen and western style toilet. The bathroom has a bath and shower. There is a large dining room and table for entertaining, and a rear deck and terrace for having BBQs or meals in the warmer months. We also have a fire pit for making a small camp fire. Other things to note The property is available all year round, but be aware that if you stay in winter, Nagano is very cold. This property is an old farm house and so does not have central heating. We have a reverse cycle air conditioner in the bedroom and have a wood fire stove and kerosene heaters to warm the property, but mornings can be very chilly until someone gets up to turn on the heaters and starts the fire again!
