Description
Charming medieval-looking town, Tuscania, stands on seven tuff rock headlands, famous especially for the two basilicas of San Pietro and Santa Maria Maggiore, authentic masterpieces of Romanesque architecture. Tuscania offers numerous points of visit, first of all, the ancient village in its entirety, perfectly preserved and where you can still breathe a medieval atmosphere of rare suggestion. The space My concept of hospitality coincides with my desire that everyone can find a place to belong to, to feel well, to feel welcomed with love, without judgment and without prejudice. This is what I offer my guests; confidentiality, quiet, cleanliness to make as pleasant as possible even if, for one night, immersed in the heart of the medieval historical center. A truly unique, very quiet space near the ancient Monastery of São Paulo. Guest access Guests will have access to the bathroom with everything you need for the cleanliness and hygiene of the person, to the kitchen where there is everything you need to cook, prepare a coffee, tea or hot tea, the fridge always offers a good wine, beer, fruit juices, varied yogurt, water, drinks, jams. Honey, cereal biscuits, cookies, and breezes are always available in the kitchen window. Guests also have access to the garden where you can also eat or simply sit comfortably in total privacy, the laundry room, and the warehouse, where you can put bicycles, or bulky things. Other things to note Tuscana (Roman period) or Toscanella (medieval period), Etruria center of Etruria, which you can hear from the bronze period, certainly important for its strategic location between the Tyrrhenian Sea (Tarquinia) and Lake Bolsena, immersed in a very fertile, cultivable area and way of transhumance. Entirely built on tuff rocks, it rises 180 meters above sea level and to date has about 8,300 inhabitants. A thriving city in Etruscan, Roman, and medieval times with a beginning based on small (Etruscan) settlements that referred to the St Peter's Hill. On this hill is already founded by the 8th century, the current Basilica, a magnificent example of a Romanesque style, whose current construction began in the 11th century, which until 1162 was the UNESCO headquarters (then passed to the city of Viterbo). Coming from the capital the skyline that presents itself is really suggestive, St. Peter that stands majestic, just below the Church of S. Maria Maggiore (consecrated in 1206, inside which we must absolutely see the frescoes of the Roman school with Byzantine influences of the Last Judgment), to then see the medieval walls of the city partly rebuilt after the earthquake of February 6, 1971. A place full of history and charm that inspired many directors over the years; in 1966 Pierpaolo Pasolini directed an unprecedented Totò in ‘Uccellacci e Uccellini’, while 30 years later Liliana Cavani set her ‘Francesco‘ with great actors such as Mickey Rourke and Helena Bonham Carter. Also outside the walls is located, near the Church of S. Maria del Riposo, a small but interesting Archaeological Museum (formerly Franciscan convent), visiting it you can walk among sarcophagi and Etruscan furnishings of the kind families of the Curunas and Vipiniana, found in the surrounding necropolis. A walk through the historic center allows you to admire the Palazzo Comunale (17th century) and from the square overlooking you can overlook a beautiful garden from where you can open a panoramic view of the hills and countryside that are part of the Tuscania Nature Reserve. A stone's throw from the central square there is an excellent municipal theater ‘Il Rivellino’ which since the late 90s of the last century is active with numerous music, dance and theater shows. Without leaving the walls, two other churches are certainly to be seen, the cathedral of San Giacomo, which is the Duomo of the city and the medieval church of San Marco. Characteristic are also the beautiful towers, such as the Lavello Tower, aristocratic buildings, an example is Tozzi Spagnoli, the arches and the profferles (external staircase of medieval homes) that furnish the village in a game of small streets and bright views. Indelible traces of the extrusive world are especially in the great tombs that surround all of Tuscania with: to the north, Peschiera, Pian di Mola and Castelluccio; while to the south (of the inhabited center) there are Ara del Tufo, and Madonna dell 'Olivo (inside which is the majestic tomb called Grotta della Regina), Scalette, Carcarello and Sasso Pizzuto.
