The Ancien Magasin Général A.G. in Petit-Matane turns another page in its history by becoming an unusual place to stay near the River. The mixture of old and new gives a unique character to each of the two sections that make up the house, namely "the accommodation" and "the store". Directly on the banks of the River, this house is perfect for relaxing in a beautiful setting. This listing is for renting the 2 sections, i.e. the entire property. The space The Old General Store A.G., well known to people in the Matane area, was in operation during the 1940s to 1970s by Mr. Armand Gauthier. Subsequently, the building was abandoned with its vintage merchandise for over 20 years. Following a colossal work of renovation of the premises by Mrs. Christiane Simard, it was reopened from 2004 to 2013 in the form of a museum and a café while preserving the authenticity of the decor of yesteryear. As a native of Petit-Matane and having grown up near the Old General Store, I was able to witness this evolution over the years. Indeed, I made purchases there in the late 1970s and I was unfortunately able to see its slow deterioration when it was abandoned with its inventory in the window. Finally, I had the pleasure of visiting the café and the museum. So when my spouse and I had the opportunity to acquire it in 2018, we didn't hesitate. The Ancien Magasin Général A.G. then turned another page in its history by becoming an unusual place to stay on the banks of the River. We are now pleased to welcome people passing through for a stay in a warm atmosphere full of history. During your stay, you can observe objects from its original inventory making the property a small museum. Part of the store's basement was also decorated in a marine style by the previous owner in memory of the sinking of the Longfellow ship nearby in 1902. You have a few options regarding the rental. Thus, depending on the number of people, it is possible to rent the entire property for up to 14 people. For smaller groups, it is possible to rent either section of the house, either the Store section or the Accommodation section, including or not including the basement. In summer, we also offer the option to book the "Loft". It is actually a garage located opposite the house that we have converted into a dining room and equipped with a bar and sofas. It is very popular for families or groups of friends. The sandy beach facing the property is one of the most beautiful in the village. It allows you to observe a wide variety of birds and marine species. Children love to discover shells, rocks of all colors and mollusks at low tide. The pirate ship and the children's house in the yard are always a hit with them for hours of fun. Two kayaks are also available to watch the sunset on the river or to cast your line into the water to tease the mackerel! Petit-Matane is a peaceful village of a few hundred inhabitants in Gaspésie, about 7 km from Matane. Its sandy beach, tranquility and unforgettable sunsets will help you enjoy a peaceful stay accompanied by the sea breeze. Guest access Living areas Accommodation Section On the ground floor, you will find a full bathroom with washer and dryer, a living room with sofas and smart TV (free access to Netflix), a kitchen with a dining table and 2 verandas in front of and behind the property. The kitchen offers, in addition to all the usual amenities: • Nespresso coffee machine (small capsule model) • Drip coffee maker • Large pot and lobster tools • Fondue pot • Oil and basic condiments like salt, pepper and sugar. • Hand and dishwashing soap provided Upstairs, you will find a full bathroom with a bath and 3 bedrooms (2 bedrooms with large beds and 1 bedroom with 3 single beds). Store Section On the ground floor, you will find a full bathroom with shower, a large living room with sofas and smart TV (free access to Netflix), a kitchen with a large dining table and a veranda. The kitchen offers, in addition to all the usual amenities: • Dishwashers • Nespresso coffee machine (small capsule model) • Drip coffee maker • Large pot and lobster tools • Fondue pot • Oil and basic condiments like salt, pepper and sugar. • Hand and dishwashing soap provided Upstairs, you will find a bedroom with a double bed and a single bed and a space closed by a screen with a double bed. In the basement of the Store, you will find a room representing the reconstruction of a marine decor with a large table, a large bedroom with 2 single beds and a lounge area with a smart TV (free access to Netflix) and a Pac-Man arcade game enjoyed by children. Exterior: - Terraces with tables and sofas - Swings facing the River - Pirate ship housing a children's cabin - Children's house - Direct beach access - BBQ - Possibility of making fires on the beach Other things to note Please note that the Accommodation and Store sections are only available for rent independently during the low season and in the intermediate seasons. In high season, only the entire property can be rented. Also, we never rent both sections at the same time. Thus, the yard will never be shared with other tenants.
