Description

Tawleat is a 3 double BR Grade II listed thatched cottage in the village of Sticklepath, within Dartmoor National Park. Built in the 1770s, it has modern amenities while retaining its periodic charm. There is a large formal self enclosed rear garden, and a meadow to the rear of the property accessed by crossing a foot bridge over the river Taw. You have approximately an acre for your use only. Access to the moor is through the meadow, and the house is within 50 m of the village pubs & shop. The space 3 double bedrooms, one with a queen size bed, the other with 2 single beds each. One bathroom with loo upstairs, downstairs, outside loo with a separate shower in the laundry, which is also outside the house. There is separate heating for both bathrooms. There are book cases in nearly every room of the house as well as the upstairs landing with books that should suit everyone's tastes, including picture books for toddlers. There are also jigsaw puzzles of varying difficulty as well as a chess set and playing cards. Guest access You can park outside the house, or across the road next to Oak Tree Park. Alternatively if your car is small enough (to fit though the gate) you can park at the back of the house. Please be careful of little ones as it is a shared drive. Other things to note Guests manual in the listing provides information to maximize the enjoyment of your stay. There is also a copy in the house on the marble top table in the dining room or on the coffee table in the sitting room, it gets restless and likes to move about. Please keep dogs off the upholstered chairs and the beds. There is also a portable cot with linen and a high chair if required. Please let me know so I can have it available when you arrive. There are also electric plug covers if required, again let me know and they will be left out for you. Patti's Wood: How I spend your money. I have been working over the last 4 years with a retired forester who lives in the village, and a field I own of approximately 4 acres, on the other side of the Bridleway. It has been planted with native trees and shrubs, which include alders, poplars, beech, English oak, hazel, hawthorn, willow, etc. There are approximately 100 trees in situ and the wood is my own green initiative, established to absorb carbon dioxide and increase the habitat for local wildlife. I am funding the project through some of the money that you pay for accommodation. It is a gift to the next generation and is named after my wife of 40 years, who died in 2019. Please note that this is our family house and I let it out when I am away for work or related matters. The house has been available for short term lets from mid 1990, when we stayed there, and we bought it from those owners and renovated it while living there. Following my wife's death, I am renting it out as these old thatch cottages need warm bodies to keep the circulation going.
