This modern and roomy 52m² one-bedroom one-bath apartment features a very large (additional 16m²) balcony facing north and an adjustable-height dining table with a balcony view and seating for four. The living room has a corner sofa bed. The bedroom has a queen bed, full-length mirror, a make-up table and mirror, room-darkening curtains and lots of closets and storage space. The bathroom is roomy and features leather-look wall tiles, has a full-size tub and shower and an electronic bidet. A great space for nomads and couples, and comfortable for extended stays. We will always have someone a phone call away for directions, help or advice. Hannam-dong is a trendy hilly neighborhood in central Seoul, near the foot of Namsan Mountain. Our villa is one block from the Hannam-dong Café Street and the Itaewon Special Tourist Zone. It has a 24-hour convenience store, a dry cleaner, two coffee shops and a wine & liquor store a block away, a bakery and a high-end barbecue restaurant next-door, Galleria’s Gourmet 494 Hannam on the next block with a luxury supermarket, fine dining and an excellent food court with much variety, also more bakeries (including famous ones like Passion 5), many more coffee shops, donut shops, restaurants for almost every kind of food, boutiques and other shopping just steps away. A short walk from here is the Leeum and Samsung Museum of Art with the Samsung Children’s Culture Center, Blue Square performing arts center, the Yongsan Art & Craft Center (which also features classes!), the Hyundai Music Library and many art galleries. Also walking distance stretching across Hannam-dong and into Itaewon are 24-hour restaurants, bars, clubs, bowling alleys, pool halls, photo booths, gyms, virtual golf, pro shops, bait and tackle, sauna and massage, souvenirs, clothing and jewelry, office supplies, car and motorcycle dealerships, a fencing academy, all the major banks and much, much more. We are close enough to everything to be convenient and just far enough to protect us from much of the noise. Transportation options are amazing here. We are a five minute walk from the Seoul Metro Subway Line #6 (Hangangjin Station exit 3) and to taxi stands on Itaewon-ro and Hannam-daero. Also five to ten minutes from dozens of city and express buses as well as airport and tour buses. A few minutes by taxi or mass transit gets you to Gangnam, Apgujeong, major markets like Namdaemun and Dongdaemun, and all of Seoul’s major historical features and tourist attractions. For nature and exercise, walking and bicycle trails on the Han River are a 25 minute walk and hiking trail entrances to Namsan Mountain are a 20 minute walk or a few minutes by bus. This neighborhood is great for individuals, groups and families whether for tourism, visiting friends and family, business stays or home-hunting for relocation. For families with children, Yongsan International School of Seoul (YISS) is a ten-minute walk. Parking is scarce here and our building is one of only a few featuring safe parking for our guests and their visitors. Our neighborhood is very walkable. Parking and even driving can be difficult on these narrow and often one-way streets so walking is preferred here. If you bring a car, we recommend checking parking options at your destinations and choosing wisely between driving and taxis or mass transit. There are many great ways to get around Seoul and Korea. Our villa is convenient to taxi stands, the subway and dozens of buses with city, inter-city, express, tour and airport service! Taxicabs in Korea are relatively economical and they accept foreign credit cards but buses and subways do not, and Korea does not have credit card -enabled kiosks for buses. For easy use of mass transit we recommend travelers buy a Tmoney card. If you plan to leave the airport using mass transit, you may buy the card at an airport convenience store. Tmoney is a cash card that uses RFID (tap to pay), and it will cost about 5,000 KRW (under US$5) at any convenience store. You must then load it with cash using Korean currency. Use an ATM if you don’t have Korean money yet and the currency exchanges are not open. You will not be able to load Tmoney using credit or debit cards. The Tmoney card can pay for taxis, subways and buses. It is also good for purchases at convenience stores and more. You can recover up to 20,000 KRW in cash from the card at any convenience store before you leave Korea. Larger refunds available at the Tmoney service center near Seoul Station during regular business hours. We also strongly recommend travelers use Ka-kaoMap or NaverMap apps on their smartphones for walking, driving and mass transit directions. US-based map apps work in Korea but not well. You may find taxicabs up on Itaewon-ro or down on Hannam-daero. Hangangjin Station (subway Line 6) is on Itaewon-ro. There are several buses available on Itaewon-ro and dozens of buses on Hannam-daero. If you prefer to use a phone app, Uber works here and Ka-kaoTaxi is not too difficult to set up. Use your smartphone app to plan all your travel! Note that the bus stop called “Soon Chun Hyang Medical Center” actually stops at Gourmet 494. The hospital is three blocks away. Gourmet 494 is in front of and underneath the new Nine-One condominium apartments, currently home to Blackpink, G-Dragon et al. Returning to the Airport For mass transit, check bus and train schedules carefully and make sure you have bus and/or train fare available. If you need a large International Airport Taxi van, make sure to book it at least a day in advance. Do NOT wait until the last minute to book taxicabs! Hannam BnB is a five-story villa completed in 2009, family-owned and run by family who have a personal stake in the land. Real people are responsible for running, maintaining and cleaning everything here. Our apartments are generally large and were built to be comfortable for international families, with both Korean and modern American amenities, all fully furnished and equipped. Each apartment includes one free parking space in our covered parking deck and, subject to availability, parking for guests. Our apartments have true Western -style bathrooms and showers, also usable as Korean -style wet rooms. Each apartment features at least one electronic bidet. The combo washer/dryers are in indoor utility rooms, not in the kitchen and not out on a dirty, freezing balcony. We have lots of lighting inside and out, radiant (ondol/온돌) floor heating with individual heat controls in each room, and in this apartment one quiet split ductless air conditioning unit. Our kitchens include full complements of major and small appliances, dishes and glasses, pots and pans, utensils and accessories. All the kitchens feature gas stoves. This unit features a grill instead of an oven. We have granite countertops and exhaust hoods, dishwashers, and all include filtered water taps with five-stage filters. The free cable TV features a 260-channel premium Korean package (KT Essence) with international news and entertainment, sports, music and more. Video on Demand available a la carte via credit card. The cable box has Netflix and YouTube apps (use your own accounts please). Gigabit Ethernet connections available in each room in addition to 802.11ac WiFi. Vacuum cleaner and extensive cleaning supplies included. Periodic or pre-departure cleaning services are available from our trusted housekeeping staff at affordable hourly rates (subject to availability). We maintain COVID-safe cleaning practices and use anti-viral treatments on common surfaces such as elevator buttons and the outside intercom panel. If we haven’t thought of something you need, ask us!
