Description

Welcome to our much loved cottage, a stones throw from Bibury right in the heart of the Cotswolds. Experience a quintessential historic English country cottage with roaring kitchen log fire, with an abundance of original features that make this a totally unique stay. With naturally crafted finishes, lime washes and natural materials throughout, eco products and toiletries we have created an eco retreat in the Cotswolds surrounded by natural beauty. Small solo dogs accommodated upon request. The space This is a wonderful 400 year old original stone farmhouse brimming with original features such as wooden beams, gently curved stone walls and stone mullioned windows. It magically transports you back to the romance of historical country living. It’s a total privilege to find a property with these kind of heritage features still intact. And so the cottage is a blend of old and new and comes with some delightful quirks. It’s not a hotel stay, it’s an experience of traditional Cotswolds life. Our eco conscious approach to design means we have gone to great lengths to use natural lime washes, tadelakt renders and eco paints. Especially in our garden bathroom featuring cedar shingle, cedar slats and waney oak shelves. The cottage has 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a separate utility room/ WC. A fabulous very well equipped farmhouse kitchen for slow cooking and family meals (no microwave) with the only working fire, a gorgeous log burner, family size fridge and farmhouse table that seats 6. This leads into a cosy TV snug and at the front of the cottage a fully planted cottage garden with outdoor table and chairs and two sunbeds. We provide logs from October-March for the kitchen log burner, for wonderfully cosy meals by the fire. The cottage can sleep 4 adults and 1 toddler. Although the cottage is not set up specifically for children/ toddlers, many have stayed and loved the cottage. Do be aware that this is a historical home with lots of uneven surfaces and a spiral staircase, so please use your own judgement when booking. Please do feel free to contact us with any questions and regarding sleeping arrangements for children. At the rear of the ground floor we have constructed our very own garden spa bathroom from cedar and oak, inspired by travel to the japanese onsens that we absolutely adored, which looks out onto a secluded japanese inspired courtyard. Along the corridor you find the main sun-filled living room which is a great space to laze and rest, where we even have the original village stone bread oven! Climbing the curved stairs from the kitchen, being careful of the low original oak beamed door frames, you will find two sun filled double bedrooms and a mediterranean inspired bathroom, all with views over the garden and wonderful beam detailing and sloping roofs. The charming spiral stairs although short, are fairly steep in sections and not best suited to those with mobility issues. To the front of the cottage we have a traditional cottage garden with large flower beds and grassed area. Access to the cottage is in the traditional style via a shared pathway and the gardens are at the front of the cottages across the pathway. At the end of the garden we have an outdoor table for alfresco dining and 2 sunbeds for lazing in the sun. This cottage has a wonderful calm energy, it is a place of respite and relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the world. You could simply come here, pick a book from our small library, play a board game, wallow gloriously in the bathtub overlooking the secluded courtyard or lounge on a sunbed in the herb filled garden, have a roast by the roaring fire and go absolutely nowhere else at all for days on end and leave feeling recharged and uplifted ready to face the world again. Please note: As this is our home, during the periods that we stay in the cottage, normally one weekend a month, we bring our 2 cats and our small dog to stay with us, so please be mindful if you have pet allergies. Dogs& Cats: We do accommodate small solo well-behaved dogs or a single cat (fully vaccinated) upon request, but charge a small additional clean fee. As we host children we ask that dogs do not use the garden or pathway to do their business. Guest access You have full use of the whole cottage and landscaped garden, table and chairs and sunbeds. There is ample parking on the main road directly outside of the gate, kindly park either side of the gate itself to maintain easy access to the path, making sure not to park on the pavement. There is a regular bus from the village to Cirencester, otherwise the area is great for cycling, watersports and lots of country walks. It is ideal to hire a car to visit the wealth of gorgeous villages in the area, otherwise we can suggest our local taxi firm or even hire a bicycle! Do note that electric bikes are not allowed on the property. Other things to note We ask that all outdoor shoes are taken off at the inner door and left in the shoe rack (you may wish to bring your own indoor slippers). NB>Please do also note that we are a dog free home, but we do have our own cat and dog that stay with us when we are at the cottage every other month. We have several Neom fragrance diffusers around the property. These are essential oil diffusers and 100% natural. ** Height Restrictions: Please also note that as to be expected with a 400 year old beamed cottage, we have low ceilings and very low door frames. - Door Frames: lowest heights are 5'5' (main bedroom) / 5'10 (snug) / 5'11 (living room) - Beams: lowest heights are 5'11' (living room) - Ceiling height 2.1m kitchen, living room and downstairs hallway. - Spiral Staircase: we have a spiral staircase with limited head height at one point which leads down onto the flagstone floor in the kitchen. - Children: whilst children are welcome this is on the basis that you acknowledge and accept the inherent risks of staying in a historical building. Please note: As this is our home, during the periods that we stay in the cottage, normally one weekend a month, we bring our 2 cats and our small dog to stay with us, so please be mindful if you have pet allergies.
