A 1905 Sifnian cottage with modern amenities and a homely feel. The cottage is spread over two separate buildings reminiscent of the way locals used to live. Renovated with contemporary touches to provide a comfortable stay. Located at the top of the strategically situated village of Ano Petali with the spectacular views, this cottage is ideal for those who like walking and who wish to experience the beauty of local living on Sifnos. The space Originally built in 1905, it used to be the home were my grandmother grew up, and even threw her wedding party back in the old days. A beloved summer home for the rest of our family ever since, where childhood memories reside in every corner. Just renovated in April 2017, we kept its traditional personality by retaining the layout of the typical village home where dining areas are separate from the sleeping and relaxing areas for reasons such as dirt and noise minimization. Thus, our beloved Petalaki cottage still spreads over two adjacent buildings, with separate entrances, and with excellent views from both. Entrance no1: Wooden floors throughout, with one double bedroom, and a two singles bedroom. Spacious living room, featuring a sofa with a 1,90x 90cm bed mattress that can comfortably sleep an extra person. Computer desk and wi-fi. Air conditioning. Balcony with sitting area and charming views. Entrance no2: Tiled floors, views from every window, dining area with traditional farmhouse table and air conditioning. Fully equipped concrete kitchen with refrigerator, small oven and washing machine. Concrete bathroom with shower and hairdryer. **PLEASE NOTE: To visit the bathroom and kitchen, one needs to walk out of the main building where the bedrooms and living room are, and walk into the building next door. Front yard and small sitting area with the typical "pentzoula"- the stone bench traditionally used by local women for sitting and gossiping the bypassers, ideal for soaking in the Cycladic village atmosphere and the passers to the church above. Beds: Double bed mattress: 150x200 Single beds mattress: 90x200 Single sofa bed mattress: 90x190 Guest access Traditionally accessible via the traditional paved footpaths of the village, it is a short stroll from Apollonia (5-7mins) where all restaurants, super markets, bars and cafes are located and a slightly longer walk (10 mins) to Artemonas. To access by car, please follow the signs to the Ano Petali free parking area, park your car and walk another 5 - minutes to the house. One can get to the free Ano Petali village parking area which is 5 kms from Kamares port, and a 5 minute walk to the house. Other things to note Petalaki’s front yard boasts a small sitting area nesting right underneath the church of Ai Yiannis where the children gather to play in the afternoons. Ideal for experiencing the authentic life of the village over a morning coffee, being social with the nearby passing locals who will always say hello!
