During the summer months Arachova has much more to offer than you can imagine. Arachova, nestled on the slopes of Mount Parnassos, is one of the most popular winter destinations in Greece. However the summer without the crowds and traffic reveals a quieter and more authentic side of it. The temperature drops noticeably in the afternoons, the atmosphere is relaxed and the prices are lower than during the winter season. It is an ideal base for excursions to the mountains and the sea, while it is very close to important sights. In summer visitors can enjoy the beauty of the area without rushing and get to know the traditional character of this picturesque village. Here is a guide with suggestions that cater to all tastes: ▪︎ Tour of Arachova: The streets of Arachova are emptier than the winter months, which will allow you to take your walks more comfortably. Climb the stairs to its top, the chapel of Agios Georgios, where you will enjoy the panoramic view. Walk to the popular clock and explore the shops with local products. Among them you will find the local formaela cheese, traditional pasta, trahana and Parnassos honey. Sit down for coffee and food against the backdrop of the tiled roofs, or at Lakka Square which is the central meeting point of the locals. The history of the place unfolds in the Folklore Museum of Arachova, which is located in a central point. The exhibits come from the daily life of the inhabitants, with collections ranging from traditional costumes, to tools and textiles, books and documents that have been preserved to this day. Special emphasis is given to the art of weaving which flourished in the area. ● Nearby excursions: ▪︎ Arachova is a hub for short car getaways. In just half an hour's drive through the fir trees you will find yourself in Eptalofos, which is also widely known as Agoriani. This picturesque village stands out for the waterfall with the running waters that reach the square. In the shade of the plane trees you will enjoy your food in the tavernas that you will find all around. ▪︎ Livadia is also an option for a walk where in the afternoon, when it is a little cooler, you will walk to the Springs of Krya and taste its famous meat and souvlaki. In the town of Delphi you will admire the scenery which is magnificent. The Delphi landscape is a dramatic, mystical setting on Mount Parnassos, featuring steep, terraced slopes with ancient ruins overlooking the Phocis Valley and the Corinthian Gulf, characterized by imposing Phaedriades rocks, sacred olive groves, and the life-giving Castalian Spring, creating a powerful blend of natural beauty and spiritual significance as the ancient "navel of the world". It stretches from the archaeological site of Delphi to Itea and Amfissa and is truly impressive as seen from the local cafes and restaurants. An excursion without crowds is also the town of Amfissa with its traditional houses and its endless olive groves. ● Nature activities: ▪︎ Its location at the foot of Mount Parnassos makes Arachova ideal for nature activities. The fresh mountain air at Parnassos Ski Center and the surrounding areas will refresh you. On Parnassos you can just take a walk or look for hiking trails with many different routes to follow. Mountaineering on Mount Parnassos in the summer is chosen by those who love adventure, but also activities such as climbing and 4X4 routes. ▪︎ A little further away at 40 km. distance the hidden diamond of Helicon mountain, Arvanitsa, is located. Between the greenery and the fir trees you will see young and old playing, taking walks and picnics. Inside the fir forest there are hiking trails, while you will also find a taverna for food and coffee in nature. ● Iconic sights: ▪︎ Next to Arachova is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece, Delphi. At the archaeological site of Delphi you will see among others the Sanctuary of Apollo with the famous Oracle of Delphi, where Pythia conveyed the oracles of Apollo to the pilgrims. ▪︎ Do not miss the visit to the modern Archaeological Museum of Delphi located next to the archaeological site, having a large collection of great works of ancient Greek art. During peak summer months in order to avoid visiting when it's too hot, it is advisable to go early in the morning to avoid intense heat.🥵 ▪︎ About half an hour from Arachova in a magnificent landscape on Mount Styri stands the monastery of Saint Luke. It is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as it is one of the most important monuments of Byzantine art and architecture in Greece. The monastery is famous for its architecture but also for its rich decoration with mosaics, frescoes and sculptures, dating back to the 11th century. ● Nearby beaches: ▪︎ If you find yourself in Arachova in summer you don't have to be deprived of the sea. Around 30 km. distance is Itea, a coastal town with a beach in the shadow of the mountains. ▪︎ In the bay of Antikyra you will swim at the beaches of Agios Isidoros, Antikyra and Distomo beach, known as "Aspra Spitia".
