Standing alone on a hilltop just outside the small village of Kato Valsamonero Standing alone on a hilltop just outside the small village of Kato Kato Valsamonero village is a rather small to have any shops or tavernas but just a short 15 mins drive away are the villages of Gerani, Prines and Atsipopoulo which have mini markets, tavernas and a little bit of life. Plus, the buzzing town of Rethymnon & is just a short 25min drive. The beach of Gerani is the nearest spot to dip toes in the sea which is a 15min drive away but just going a little further west takes you to the very long stretch of Georgiopolis. Here there is about 7kms of sandy beach with tavernas dotted along it, to choose a spot. If you can’t pull yourself away from Villa Xagnado, you will be pleased to know that a relative in a nearby village has a souvlaki shop & they deliver to the villa as well! Plus, the owners, Stratos & Margarita offer their guests a welcome basket of their homemade honey, raki, wine and olive oil upon arrival. Stratos gardening equipment is stored in the large garage at the rear of the property. You really need a car when staying in the village. It is only a short drive to the nearest mini market/tavernas. To get to the National Highway is about 20mins drive so you can explore the north coast with organized beaches. Or you are about 45 mins drive to the south coast for more 'natural' beaches.
