At 30 minutes drive from Funchal, 5 minutes drive to rock beaches in seaside villages / sand beaches by the marina of Calheta / “levada” walks. Please note that one can rent any combination of Casa Palheiro (T0), Casa Rural (T1), and (Casa Eco T2)! The space The Casa Eco is a recent modern two bedrooms villa integrated with the two neighbouring traditional buildings of Casas Da Vereda facing the Atlantic, for up to 4 guests. The Casas Da Vereda were designed to minimise their environmental impact and to be energy efficient. The project also brought regional tradition and architectural innovation together in harmony and without sacrificing quality. Here are some of the materials that were used: • cork, a national and ecological product in parts of the façade and for thermal insulation • basalt stone from the island in parts of the facade • natural (lime-based) plasters and paints • collecting rain water and storing Levada water for irrigation Water is the central element at Casas Da Vereda in order to bring freshness, lush vegetation, tranquillity and relaxation. The gardens were designed to provide privacy to each of the 3 houses' covered external areas and terraces. The common herbs garden displays numerous essences and can also offer vegetables and fruits around the year! The term “Vereda” means footpath / a narrow path used only for walking. Casas Da Vereda - The Footpath Houses. In Madeira Island there are many paths of variable degrees of difficulty to be crossed by foot, some traversing steep and exposed slopes to reach rural homes / barns or patches / terraces of agricultural land. In 2016 the footpath leading to Casas Da Vereda was doubled with a narrow agricultural road, which now provides car access to the property doors. Please note that we are collecting a Tourist Tax of 2€ per night per person, and a maximum of 7 consecutive nights, from all our guests and on behalf of the local municipality of Calheta.
