Description
This chalet is truly unique, one of the oldest buildings in the area; it has been authentically restored while retaining its charm and character. You will find yourself in beautiful surroundings full of history. It is close to the Portes Du Soleil skiing resorts (Champéry, Morgins) and the Thermal Baths of Val d'Illiez. The chalet is good for couples and ideal for families. Pets welcome. Given the beauty of the chalet and its antique restoration, we don't host big group celebration parties. The space If you are looking for more than just any big place to stay with your family or friends, then Chalet Croix de Pierre will be your great choice. The chalet is a very old farmhouse with a special character which was completely restored in 2006. Great care was taken to retain its old and original character, leaving in place and re-using as much as possible the original materials. With over 300 m² of living area over two floors, there is plenty of space even for two families or larger groups of friends. The original living quarters of the farm have been turned into a large and open sitting and lounge area, with sofas comfortably arranged around the 150-year old wood-burning stove. The open kitchen and dining area on the ground floor has a large table, a wood burning cooker and ancient cupboards – but also normal amenities such as a dishwasher, electric oven and large fridge/freezer. The ground floor also contains (in the place of the old stables) the large master bedroom with a large en-suite bathroom as well as a guest toilet. The staircase to the upper floor has been fitted into the converted smoke house (and still has the old smoky smell). The upstairs has another television and sitting area. (The TV has a subscription to over 300 channels in many languages, films can be rented on demand). There are four bedrooms upstairs, one with balcony, each large enough to sleep at least two people. There are also two shower rooms and a separate toilet. Throughout the house, plenty of the old farm tools are on display and make you feel a little bit like in a museum. The chalet has a beautiful and large south-facing terrace with a stone-built barbecue and fireplace. There is outside furniture (tables and chairs) for up to 12 people. The house is set in a large piece of green land. There is plenty of flat space (a rarity in the mountains) to play, for instance, table tennis (table and equipment is provided for free). In an annexe to the house, a washing machine and a tumble dryer are at your disposal. The old water fountain in front of the entrance door dating from 1777 is fed by a private well on the opposite side of the valley. Facing the road, you will see a century-old stone cross, a landmark that gave the chalet its name. Guest access You will have the whole house for yourself. Certain areas may be locked to store the host's personal affairs, but there is still an abundance of space. For skiing guests, there is dedicated storage space for the skiing equipment. Other things to note In the summer months (from June 15th to September 8th), we offer our guests up to 9 free "Portes du Soleil Multi-Passes". These passes provide free or strongly reduced access to a multitude of activities throughout the 12 Portes du Soleil resorts. Closer to the chalet, these include free access to a cable car, chair lifts, a climbing wall, swimming pools, tennis courts, mini-golf and many others. Great especially for families with children. (See the Portes du Soleil website for details) The chalet has floor heating but on cold winter days the old wood buring stove is used in addition to make the chalet warm and cosy. It has been doing this job reliably for more than 150 years and will continue to do so as long as our guests operate the stove responsibly. (We can also arrange to have the stove heated for you during your absence. )
