This stunning detached villa sits in over a third of an acre of landscaped gardens, with private swimming pool, in a quiet corner of Gaucin village. The views from the house are exceptional, whether of the village, the ruined castle above it, or to the distant Rock and Straits of Gibraltar, and even the Rif Mountains in Morocco. While the secluded setting makes it feel almost as if you are out in the countryside, the bars, restaurants and shops of Gaucin are all within ten minutes’ walk. The space An absolutely delightful villa of 450 sq. metres, it is filled with paintings and sculptures from the many local artists’ studios. Elegant and spacious, beautifully furnished throughout, it has four double/twin bedrooms, all en-suite and sleeps up to eight people - ideal for couples or families with children, preferably over the age of 5. All bedrooms are air-conditioned. The swimming pool is surrounded by mature gardens, terraces on different levels, a boule court, table tennis, and a barbecue area. There is also a rowing machine and a cross-trainer for guests' use. The pool and garden offer complete privacy and the garden, with its many secluded corners, is planted with an abundance of flowering shrubs, fruit trees, almond and olive trees and many beautiful flower beds. The main entrance, a large double-door from a former convent, leads to the designer-built spiral staircase. The centre of the house, on the first floor, has a large living room opposite an equally large formal dining room. The living room opens onto a beautiful forty-foot long, five-arched covered loggia that runs along the front of the house, overlooking the garden and offering stunning views to the coast over miles of unspoiled countryside. At one end of the loggia is an outdoor dining area, ideal for long lunches and evening meals al fresco. Facing south-west, it is also a delightful place to sit in the evening with a refreshing drink and watch the often unbelievably beautiful sunset views. There is a further delightful outdoor eating area consisting of a hand-made mosaic table, with seating for 10 people, under a pergola on a terrace in the garden. The formal indoor dining room is equipped with a custom-made chestnut dining table and chairs for fourteen people, and the windows look over the rear rock garden and up to the ancient ruined castle. Both the living room and the dining room have log burning Nordic stoves (with glass doors) and the house also has full under-floor heating for the cooler winter months. There is a Satellite TV (Free-Sat with all UK digital channels), WiFi, DVD player and DVD’s, video player and video library, Hi Fi with Bluetooth connectivity, an internet-enabled Roberts Radio and all the rest that make a house a home, including board games, and an interesting variety of books. The large kitchen was completely refurbished in 2024 and is fully equipped with state-of-the art appliances, including two ovens, a large induction hob, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, china, glasses and cutlery. There are plenty of saucepans and other cooking gear. The door from the kitchen leads to a small breakfast terrace overlooking the pool and garden. Adjoining the kitchen is the indoor breakfast area, which faces the spacious bar and pantry area, with a large American-style refrigerator/freezer, with ice and chilled water dispenser. The top-floor double bedroom, with a king-size double bed, has air-conditioning and an en-suite bathroom, and opens onto a large terrace which provides uninterrupted views up to the castle and the surrounding mountains, over the top of the village and down the valley to Gibraltar and the Moroccan coast and mountains. The double bedroom (king-size) on the first floor also has air-conditioning and a spacious en-suite bathroom, with bath/shower and WC. The double-aspect windows of the bedroom, which include a Juliet balcony, provide wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and the valley of the river Genal, leading down towards Gibraltar. On the ground floor there are two further air-conditioned bedrooms, both of which open onto the garden. One is a twin bedroom with a large en-suite bathroom with bath/shower and WC. The other is a double bedroom (king size) with an en-suite bathroom with a large shower. Also on the ground floor is the utility room with washing machine and tumble-dryer, iron and ironing-board. You’ll find sunbeds and comfortable outdoor chairs around the hexagonal pool, which is salt-water chlorinated (no chemical chlorine). Swimming at night with its underwater lighting is an experience not to be forgotten! The comfortable seating area surrounding the Buddha statue in the Japanese garden is wonderfully shaded and cool, as is the hammock which hangs between two trees over the centre of the boule arena (with hooks for easy removal when a game is in progress). The property is supplied with mains water, 220 volt Electricity and Gas, for heating, hot water and cooking. Los Buhos is the perfect place “to get away from it all” in a luxurious environment.
