Chez Lussaud is a beautiful 300 year old private hamlet located in the southern tip of the Charente. Set in 8 acres of garden, wood & open spaces, it's the perfect place to kick off your shoes, relax & take in the views. La Maison du Charpentier is a boutique gite with private garden, your own wood-fired hot tub & shared pool. Holidays are very precious, our aim is for you to go home completely relaxed and rested, having enjoyed the peace, tranquility and hospitality Chez Lussaud has to offer. The space La Maison du Charpentier (The Carpenters House)- Sleeps 4/5 A large traditional Charente farmhouse can comfortably accommodate 4 guests in two very large ensuite bedrooms. The master bedroom has a beautiful hand forged iron four poster bed with a deep fully sprung super-king mattress and topper. The second bedroom Le Jardin Chambre has a french corbeille bed with a deep king size sprung mattress. Good quality 100% Egyptian cotton bedding and towels are provided for your stay. In addition, a 140 cm wide (small double) sofa bed can be set up in the Couloir for up an additional guest if required (please discuss prior to booking). A travel cot, changing table with integrated baby bath, ‘Tripp Trapp’ high chair and a booster seat can be made available on request when booking, subject to availability. A large fully equipped traditional shaker style kitchen provides a wonderful place to cook, eat and socialise. There is a 2 metre long oak kitchen table, ideal for your traditional french breakfast each morning, with views down to the woods at the bottom of the garden. With a wood burning stove and two traditional french armchairs, it is also the perfect place to pause with a glass of Bordeaux while your evening meal is in the oven. The main entrance from the courtyard and the heart of the farmhouse is 'The Couloir' which is steeped in history and was the former meeting place for the hamlet. Every room in the farmhouse leads off the Couloir and there are large Charentise doors at each end. To reflect its history we have turned the Couloir back into a dining room, with its polished wood floor and a large refectory table seating 8, it is ideal for get-togethers with family and friends, and the perfect place to enjoy Christmas or a celebration dinner. With both tables you can easily seat 14, particularly useful if you are a family renting both gites together enabling you to socialise together, but still enjoy your own space. In addition there are two quiet seating areas at each end of the Couloir, one end has the sofa bed which can be partitioned off with curtains. Equipped with a flat screen tv, Freeview UK satellite channels, music system and comfortably furnished, the large lounge provides the ideal area to relax after a day out exploring. For the budding writer, or those that need to ‘work from home’ while away, there is a large traditional desk/work space to one side of the lounge. Set into the lounge fireplace is a Provence log burner effect fire (gas), in addition there is full central heating throughout and a log burner in the kitchen, perfect for those out of season breaks. Your first basket of logs is complimentary. Leaving the Couloir from the back doors you will find a large chestnut tree and gravelled area with comfortable seating, perfect for enjoying a bit of shade from the summer sun, or watching the sun go down over the pool. Your garden area extends with a large lawned area up to the pool house, giving you your own private access to the shared pool. Just across from your kitchen door is a terracotta terrace with your own private wood-fired hot tub for your complete relaxation. The hot tub has air jets and ambient lighting, so that you can relax in the sun or take in the stunning clear night sky with a glass of wine. Next to the hot tub terrace is a large gravelled area for out door dining with table and chairs and a Weber BBQ. Pétanque - there is a Pétanque court, and each gite has its own set of boules and garden games for your enjoyment. Parking space is provided for up to two cars at the side of the house. Pool - Newly Renovated in 2022 - The pool is 11.5m x 5m with a depth ranging from 1m up to 1.80m in the deep end. Equipped with sun loungers, parasols and a cabana, we also provide pool towels and pool baskets for your stay. The pool is shared with one other gite. Free fibre WIFI is available. A welcome basket with local Charentise produce is provided on arrival, and when in season, fruit from our trees. Dogs with 'well behaved owners' are welcome (max 2 per gite). Dog bowls and doggy treats provided! Please note that while your gardens are private, they are not fenced off, so leads are required at all times please. We have a large field at the back which is ideal for dog walking. The owners have two very friendly Golden Retrievers. *Our other property is Le Four a Pain Guest access You have access to your whole house, your private garden and the communal gardens, including woods, fields, boules court, badminton, hammocks and swimming pool. Other things to note Pool - The pool is open from 1st May to the first week in October, but this may vary depending on the weather. The pool is not currently heated, the electric safety cover retains heat efficiently overnight. Dogs are not permitted in the pool area. Hot Tubs - Your own wood fired hot tub is available to use all year. The first basket of logs is with our compliments, there is a small charge for additional baskets after that.
