Secluded sanctuary, totally private yet close to Ubud, LARGE property, almost jungle-like. No traffic noise. Pool, Yoga gazebo, airy, private. Kind&caring Balinese family supply all upkeep, cooking, childcare, errands, etc. My home built in 1980 with constant upgrades, is older, a little "worn around the edges" but with a patina, and array of artwork on the walls. It is in the Balinese style, with open living, only the bedrooms enclosed and A/C . Truly 1-of-a-kind now in Bali. Expansive&unusual The space My home is an unusual “sanctuary,” a slice of “old Bali” situated on 37 are (~ 3/4 hectare, or ~ 2 acre) of land, overlooking the Campuhan river gorge, just 5 minutes from Pacha Mama and 25 min walk to Ubud An aerial view of the property may be found on Google Earth, co-ordinates 8 degrees 30’21.25” S and 115 degrees 15’ 19.34” E. “Rumah Kartika Dharma” has an open floor plan, with a central kitchen, large verandas, and 2 enclosed A/C bedrooms , one with a queen bed, and the other with a queen and twin beds, both with semi-open tropical bathrooms (shower only). Upstairs is a semi –open lounge/writing/dancing/painting area with an open sleeping area consisting of a Chinese Wedding Bed (full-sized mattress) with mosquito netting, equipped with a small chest and armoire, and is sufficient for short-term visitors, children, or guests who are OK without A/C and more basic sleeping arrangements. Overall, the home can accommodate a maximum of 5-6 persons. The rental for the home (see rates online), includes all taxes and the full services of my Balinese staff of 2 who have worked for me for > 30 years, and supply all upkeep, errands, laundry, childcare, and cooking. Ketut is an excellent chef who can cook both western & local dishes and will cook up to 2 meals/day; you pay for the- inexpensive- groceries…) My home is unusual for Bali, with the privacy, the “space,” and the amazing atmosphere supplied by our mellow and caring staff. It is a 5 minute walk up the (occasionally steep- ~ 15% grade; not for older folks with walking difficulties) 100 m. “village path” to small restaurants and shops, and a 10-minute walk to the outskirts of Ubud, and 20 minutes to Ubud center/Monkey Forest Road. Melodic birds, frogs and large butterflies abound, but mosquitoes and other bugs are far less than at the beach. The sounds you hear are birds, waterfalls, roosters (mostly in the mornings), and the occasional dog. Traffic noises are non-existent or very muted here. (Disclaimer: A new hotel is being slowly built nearby, and muted carpentry & building noises are for the present part of the environment. Looks like completion ~ June 2019... but "Bali time...") The pool is totally private, and pristine, but down a 2-level stone path and not “secure” for small children. You will find nothing like it nowadays My home was originally built in 1980, when it was possible to get larger parcels of land, and build for open-air, Balinese-style living.) However, it is definitely not a “tourist hotel” with frequent spraying for bugs, and an “enclosed guarded environment,” although it is probably one of the most secure locations in Bali because of its hidden nature at the end of a 100 m. village path. This is not a “Villa Complex,” but a totally private, secluded property literally just outside of Ubud. As a “Balinese property,” I cannot guarantee the absence of wildlife such as frogs, mice, geckos, termites, roosters, etc: it is not a “pristine tourist hotel…” but a hidden, exquisite, private, well-cared for Balinese estate. Ibu Detri, one of the area’s finest masseuses, or one of her friends can give you a massage at the house (we have a massage table) for ~US$10. She also does a great mani- pedi!! Airport or other place pickup can be arranged for an additional fee of US$35 (airport), which can be added to your rental fee. Made, the house manager, can easily secure friendly & reliable car/driver arrangements as desired for island touring... Most "Villas" are of recent construction, very small properties, or "out in the boondocks..." This property is truly jungle-like, much more private than most, and truly gentle care from a Balinese staff of 2 is part of the deal. They are not intrusive, and can do as much or as little as you wish. Mine is an older, well-established estate (38 years old; I come back every year) and has the funkiness and patina of age and updates. It was built when there were neither power not telephones anywhere around. Then I after-wired it and brought in a solar voltaic system from the States. Then, finally in ~ 1990 electricity was reliable, and we switched over. It has all modern conveniences, and unusual touches for a rental like a modern sound system, power adapters, TV/Disc player w/many movies, an amazing 2-person teak and jute hammock-bench, blender, rice cooker, medium-sized ice chest for day journeys by car kitchen with cook, etc. "little things..." you won't fine in other rentals. it is a delightful environment to watch the rain from, or come home to after a rough day touring & shopping! There are truly beautiful paintings, carvings, and statues all around, some by well-known but now deceased Balinese innovators. This is not a "modern sterile villa, but a welcoming home. It has been my second home and a vacation rental for 38 years. "...It works..." Guest access PRIVATE HOME on LARGE parcel of land (not "Villa Complex..."), 2 bedroom + small upstairs sleeping and lounging area. Private pool, Yoga gazebo, lilly pond, very large property... Home is down a 100 meter "village path" from parking area. YOU HAVE THE ENTIRE PROPERTY Other things to note *** My home is cared for by a Balinese family who have worked for me for almost 35 years and delightfully provide all upkeep, errands, laundry, childcare, and gourmet cooking of 2 meals/day if you wish (you only buy or give money for inexpensive groceries.) We also have a massage table and our own masseuse, Ibu Detri, who has a spa up the road and comes to the house regularly for massage, & mani-pedi's
