Description
The large Umgebindehaus of cloth merchant C. W. Henke sits in the heart of Upper Lusatia. Built in 1831 and carefully restored, it blends historic character with modern comfort: original doors, windows and floorboards, Meissen tiled stoves, linseed‑oil paints and 1930s wallpapers. With 260 m², it offers space for up to 11 guests, a big dining table, plenty of toys and a fully equipped kitchen. Depending on the season, the wild garden, the terrace or the vaulted sauna invite you to relax. The space During the restoration, we interfered as little as possible with the historic fabric of the house. The hand‑made roof tiles, the old box windows, the Art Deco wallpapers, the original Rietschel shutters, the wide wooden floorboards and the ornate brass door handles have all been preserved. The house is essentially a small walk through local architectural history, from the Baroque period to modern times. We added a modern, spacious kitchen equipped for serious cooking: a 90 cm SMEG oven, KitchenAid, professional knives, a Moccamaster and plenty of pots and utensils. There is also a large dining table for everyone, modern bathrooms, down duvets with pressed linen bedding, a generous sauna, art and antiques from around the world, a spinet, and books and toys for children. There is no TV on purpose – the house is old, proud and entertaining enough. And honestly, evenings here are better spent together than in front of a screen. It is a very personal holiday home, perfect for anyone who enjoys cooking, making music or simply spending meaningful time together in a larger group, and who appreciates a house with character and history. Right next door you’ll find the coffee museum with its café in a beautiful courtyard, as well as a traditional inn. And the small but charming public swimming pool of Ebersbach is only 300 metres away! Guest access On the ground floor, there is a 47 m² apartment in the former block room, featuring a double bed, a bathtub, a Jugendstil tiled stove and the restored original wallpapers from the 1930s. Also on the ground floor are the small vaulted room (15 m²) with a double bed and the sauna. The sauna is charged separately at €0.55 per kWh; guests usually use around 15–20 kWh for an evening. Upstairs, the large 140 m² apartment includes one large and two smaller bedrooms, a dining room with a tiled stove, a library, a kitchen, a bathroom and a separate guest toilet. The large garden in front of the house, as well as the inner courtyard with seating, a barbecue, a fire bowl, a climbing tree and a sandbox, are also available for your use. For children, we can provide two highchairs and two additional beds (a wooden cot 70×140 cm and a travel cot 60×120 cm), along with plenty of toys. We rent the house only as a whole, so you will have all rooms entirely to yourselves. If you need even more space, the “kleiner Faktor” (the small factor’s house) in the rear building can be booked separately and offers room for 2–3 additional guests (see our other listing). Other things to note It was important to us that the furnishings come from the region whenever possible. Towels and curtains are made by Leinen Hoffmann in Neukirch, the freshly pressed bed linen comes from Spreetex in Neusalza‑Spremberg, the glassware is from Stölzle and the tableware from Kahla. Many of the furniture pieces are originals from Hellerau or Wehrsdorf, complemented by artwork from local artists and finds from around the world.
