A peaceful cottage near Wells and Cheddar

17th century cottage. Sleeps 3 (plus a cot) in 2 bedrooms. In a pretty, walled courtyard, attached to the owner's former farmhouse, but completely self contained. Just a stroll down a quiet lane to the centre of this ancient village, with a thriving shop and pub. Surrounded by beautiful Mendip hills, overlooking the Somerset Levels, blessed with lovely walks and interesting places to visit. Wells, with its historic Cathedral and Palace, and Cheddar with its spectacular gorge are 4 miles away. The space Welcome to The Dairy, your Somerset home from home. Sleeps 3 in 2 bedrooms, plus a cot for little ones. Perfect for couples looking for a peaceful retreat, great for small families. Up to 2 well behaved dogs are welcome. Children and babies are well provided for, so you don't have to overfill your car! Small but peaceful, sun trap guest's garden with water feature, table and chairs and off road parking space. Good Wifi speed. Built in the 1600's The Dairy was a farm worker's home and still is full of quirky character with beams and 2ft thick exposed stone walls, which keep the cottage cool in summer and warm in winter. The full kitchen is well equipped for cooks, with an induction hob, electric cooker, washing machine, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, plus dining table and chairs. There's a good range of cooking and table ware. You'll find a welcome basket of local goodies, including teas, coffee milk etc. Plus enough oil, vinegar and condiments, dishwashing sundries and loo roll etc to get you started. The separate, comfortable sitting room has a smart TV, so you can log into Netflix or iplayer etc. There are plenty of DVD's, books, toys, games and maps and guides. A sturdy spiral staircase leads up to a small landing. The romantic master bedroom, has an oak kingsize bed, canopied under A frame beams, a wardrobe, 2 small chest of drawers and a washbasin. There are blackout blinds at both windows. The 2nd bedroom also has beams and a standard size single bed plus a chest of drawers and small dressing table/ desk. Theres an optional travel cot too. Beds are made up with 200 thread count cotton bedding . Towels, bathmats, tea towels are all provided. Very comfortable hybrid sprung and memory foam king size mattress. The master room has a down and feather duvet, but if you prefer synthetic I can supply that too. Spare season duvets and blankets in case you're too hot or cold, even an old fashioned hot water bottle! Pristine shower room with a good electric shower, basin and toilet. For children there's a travel cot, highchair, baby bath, changing mat, stair gates, step stool, plus lots of toys and games. Gas central heating. The guests garden is a pretty sun trap where you can relax and hear the birdsong and enjoy the peace with a drink. Guest access Outside the cottage is a large walled courtyard with parking for one car, ( shared parking space with owners) Sun-trap patio garden, exclusively for guests with patch of lawn, water feature, chairs and table. Guests have sole access to the entire cottage, but not the owner's house next door, or the owner's garden room, which you can see through the sitting room window. (Its only used for potting and geraniums ) The owners back garden can be seen but is private. The Dairy is a very old cottage, so dimensions are not always standard! The lowest doorway is 5'11', the shower room height is 6ft 5 max. I can supply an access statement if required. or am happy to answer any questions. Other things to note On arrival you'll find fresh flowers, a refreshment tray with some tempting local treats. We supply the essentials and other little touches to make you feel at home. Our house is next door to the cottage. We have our own dog (a cockapoo) who is friendly, but is kept away from the guests areas.
