There are 4 flights of well-lit stairs from street level to your room. Street parking is free. 25min. walk to the city. Bus stop next door. The space Smart TV (Netflix, Amazon Prime, & Freeview channels) and Chromecast are provided for your entertainment. The Studio has a private entrance and is on a separate floor from the main villa. Your host, Sue, lives upstairs in the main house and is very happy to offer suggestions on what to do, where to eat, and how to make the best of your stay in Wellington. The large, private terrace has an outdoor BBQ and stainless steel bench, including hot water at the sink. The kitchenette inside the room is equipped with microwave, toaster, kettle, refrigerator, crockery & stemware/tumblers, and tea/coffee making supplies. Enjoy walking to the beach, cafes, restaurants, or to the city center 15-20 min away along Oriental Bay's large promenade. In the city centre, you will find myriad restaurants and cafes, shopping galore, and theatres and cinemas. Highlights include Te Papa (the national museum), Parliament and the Beehive, Museum of Wellington City and Sea, the City Gallery and Civic Plaza, and the central business district (CBD.) If you prefer or in inclement weather, there are buses 30 min apart (#14) to the city and beyond, or to the Eastern suburbs of Miramar and Seatoun & the airport, Lyall Bay, and Breaker Bay via Kilbirnie. The bus stop is just 30m away from our gate. Tours abound for those who prefer more structured sightseeing with local guides. The "Hop On, Hop Off" guided tour ($45/adult) includes some of the hottest spots in Wellington including the Botanic Gardens and Zealandia. You may also enjoy one of Wellington's popular food and wine tours (Zest Food Tours); or visit Wellywood--the Weta Cave at Weta Workshop. For those keenest of Hobbit/Lord of the Rings fans, there are guided tours to the filming locations in the Wellington area. Sue is happy to provide suggestions for any tours of interest. Guest access You will have the third level of our property to yourself; longer-term guests or on request, you will have access to the large gourmet kitchen in the main house, as well as laundry facilities. Please be aware, there are FOUR FLIGHTS of stairs from The Crescent to your room, all well lit and with handrails. Other things to note In case you missed it, we have 4 flights of stairs from the street to the Studio. But with the stairs, come VIEWS on every level! We launder the linens in the main house where two cats live; sheets hang indoors. So if you are highly allergic please discuss with Sue prior to booking. Sue lives in the main house with her 3 adult children, Helo, and 2 cats (Frodo and Pickles.) Our lovely neighborhood is in a vibrant city, and the houses are built close together. Buses travel up and down the hill below our house frequently, and we are near the approach to the airport--you may want to pack earplugs if you are sensitive to such noises.
