Description

Relax and have fun with family and friends while enjoying sensational sea views and a stunning landscape from this historic beach house; the perfect spot for a special holiday, a romantic getaway or as a base to explore the East Coast. The Saltworks Beach House is a waterfront cottage with short walks to secluded beaches for swimming and longer coastal walks. Close to an all weather boat ramp, it’s an ideal location for every season. It has a special 'wow' factor you will always remember. The space The Saltworks Beach House has stunning and expansive water views across Great Oyster Bay to Freycinet Peninsular and Schouten Island. It is in a private location backed by a large olive grove. The beach house consists of an historic cottage, that was rebuilt from ruins in 1987 along with the construction of an adjoining building and garage. The renovated property was a finalist for the Australian Institute of Architect’s national Robin Boyd Award in that same year. The cottage was formerly the Overseer’s cottage of the Lisdillon Salt Works, built by James Radcliffe in the late 1830’s using convict labour. Today, the open planned cottage contains a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge where you can sit in front of an open fire, sip a glass of wine, read a book or watch TV. Attached to the cottage is a large sunroom providing outdoor seating and an additional dining area where you can take in the magnificent views regardless of the weather. The property comfortably sleeps 8 people across 4 bedrooms. Two decks connect the cottage to the adjoining building which features 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and a spacious sitting room off a sunlit gallery. A fourth bedroom and additional bathroom and laundry is available off the garage. The property features: 3 queen size beds and 2 singles which can be joined together to make a king size bed. Talk to us, we will happily try to configure the sleeping arrangements to suit your needs and can pull out a trundle bed or sofa bed if required. See attached floor plan. Infants are welcome to stay free of charge, children over 2 years are counted as guests. The nearest shop is 20 minutes away so it's a good idea to plan your meals and think ahead. We provide a range of teas, a coffee plunger and a Lavazza coffee pod machine, a variety of pots, pans, baking dishes, a rice cooker and cooking essentials such as herbs, spices, oil and sauces in a well equipped kitchen and an outside BBQ. There are two fridges for your convenience. The freshly pressed olive oil comes direct from the olive grove surrounding our property - known as Olives By the Sea. Guest access Guests have full access to the property except for the garage which is used for storage. There is room for parking close to the house and plenty of space for boats and trailers in the yard. Guests have direct access to two secluded beaches and a coastal walk immediately in front of the property. A two minute stroll across the headland reserve brings you to the original ruins of the Lisdillon Salt Works, where you can read about its history and operations first hand. They remain an important historic and archeological site. Only a 2 minute drive away is access to a jetty and a dual lane concrete boat ramp with a central pontoon platform. This all weather and all tide boat ramp is at the mouth of the Little Swanport River, ideal for kayaking in the estuary or launching any sized boat to head out to sea. A beautiful, sparkling waterway shared with numerous pelicans, fairy terns, pied oyster catchers, herons, black swans and if you are lucky, our resident sea eagle. Other things to note The Saltworks Beach House offers various living areas and nooks to escape to. We provide a range of books, DVDs, jigsaws, cards, games and binoculars for your enjoyment, along with a bluetooth speaker, so you can listen to your own favourite music. There is no Wifi attached to the property, but our guests report this is a welcome relief to get away from technology; reconnect and soak up the environment. The Saltworks Beach House is a place where you can kick back and do nothing or get active and do lots! A few hundred metres away is a boat ramp on the Little Swanport River, ideal for accessing the sea or river for boating, fishing and kayaking. The beach house is not fully wheelchair accessible. The building, grounds and paths are flat, we have wide doors and hallways, however there are 2 low single steps - one step into the sunroom another step up into the cottage - and the shower is over a modular bath.
