The beach is 0.3 miles from the door, and with a separate living room plus a kitchen-diner, there's room to cook, eat and flop without everyone being on top of each other. The table seats six comfortably, there's a Smart TV in here too, and large doors open straight onto the garden. The kitchen includes: • Oven and hob • Fridge/freezer • Dishwasher • Microwave • Kettle and toaster • Coffee maker Afterwards, head for the living room and sink into the L-shaped sofa in front of the media wall, with its decorative electric fire and 65-inch TV with Sky Stream, made for film nights after a day on the beach. Outside you'll find: • A large outdoor table with built-in seating along the edges • Weber charcoal BBQ • Room for little ones and four-legged guests to potter, with dog bowls provided There's also a washing machine and tumble dryer, particularly useful after beach days, muddy walks and sandy swimsuits. Step out and explore Camber Sands, 0.3 miles Door to the western beach entrance, then over the dunes to one of the loveliest stretches of sandy beach on the south coast, with plenty of room to find your own patch. Rye, 3.8 miles by road Around an 8-minute drive away, with cobbled streets, independent shops, antique treasures, cafés, pubs and some excellent places to eat. If you fancy stretching your legs, it's also a mostly flat 3.1-mile countryside walk, with big skies, plenty of sheep for company and, if you're lucky, a barn owl or two. They're our favourite bit. The Owl Pub, around 0.4 miles on foot The village pub and our local, with excellent food and a relaxed, dog-friendly atmosphere. It's an easy, mostly flat walk from the cottage. One thing to note, they don't accept children under 5. Harry's at The Gallivant, around 0.3 miles on foot Classic French bistro cooking and our pick for a special meal in the village. Close enough that nobody needs to drive or draw straws for designated driver. It's reservation only, with age limits for younger children and some restrictions for dogs, so it's worth checking with them when you book. Then there are miles of beach walks, Romney Marsh countryside, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and plenty more to discover when you feel like venturing further. The Rock is somewhere to unpack, spread out and let the sea set the pace. Sandy toes, sleepy dogs and another beach day tomorrow. Guest access You'll have the whole house, the enclosed garden and the private driveway to yourselves during your stay, so unpack, make yourselves at home and enjoy it. Other things to note The house The Rock sleeps up to six guests across a king with en-suite, a double and a twin room, which is made up as two single beds. We provide a travel cot, highchair and stair gates, but the house isn't presented as a fully baby-proofed or childproofed home, so families with very young children may need to take a little extra care. The garden is fully enclosed and dogs can potter about happily, though it's worth an eye on a particularly small or determined escape artist on the first day. The BBQ is a charcoal Weber, and charcoal isn't provided, so bring a bag if you're planning to use it. This is a much-loved holiday home rather than a hotel, and we simply ask that you treat it with the same care you would your own. If anything isn't quite right during your stay, please tell us. We're nearby and will always do our best to get things sorted quickly. The area Camber is a small, laid-back seaside village, and that's exactly why we love it. What it lacks in high streets and nightlife, it more than makes up for with miles of golden sand, grassy dunes and enormous skies. There's a cracking local pub, a top-notch restaurant and a handful of places for the essentials, but life here is deliberately simple. Days revolve around beach walks, sea swims and wondering whether it's too early for an ice cream. Evenings are quiet, nights properly dark and the soundtrack tends to be more wildlife and waves than traffic. Camber's eating-out options are fairly limited generally, so with very young children Rye, around 8 minutes away by car, has much more choice and plenty of family-friendly places to eat. If you want bright lights, lots of shops and late-night bustle, Camber probably isn't the place. But if calm, cosy and coastal sounds rather more like it, you'll feel right at home.
