Description

Beautiful terraced cottage with its own garden in the unspoilt coastal village of Bucks Mills, near Clovelly, Hartland and Bideford in North Devon. It's a 500m (5 minute) walk to the pebbly beach along a no-through lane. Stretches of sand and rock pools are exposed at low tides. Dogs are welcome on the beach all year round. The South West Coast path, leading to Peppercombe in one direction and Clovelly in the other, goes through the village + there's plenty of circular and woodland walks. The space Old, tiny fisherman’s cottage. Sleeps 4 (max 2 adults and up to two children). Two bedrooms Bedroom 1 has 1 x kingsize bed. Bedroom 2 has 2 x full length small singles (2'6" x 6'3"). Please be aware that the windows in the bedrooms are set quite low to the floor with wide window sills and old wooden windows. This means the spaces may not be suitable for some families with small children. All bed linen and towels supplied, but not beach towels or dog towels. Beds will be made up for when you arrive. Electric wall heater in both bedrooms. Kitchen, all electric cooker with induction hob, fridge with ice box, washing machine, dishwasher, nespresso citiz coffee machine (standard style pods), microwave. Equipped with usual kitchen utensils etc. Sitting/dining room - TV, sofa and chair for 4 people, table and 4 seats, books/games, electric wall heater. Wood-fired stove. Bathroom - includes bath, over bath Aqualisa electric shower, and electric heated towel rail. Like most old cottages, the height of the ceilings and doors are lower than you typically find in modern homes. Please also note that the stairs are steep and may not be suitable for everyone. The village is very quiet and unspoilt - perfectly suited to anyone looking to get away from it all and enjoy the natural surroundings. There is a shop, stocking local products and every-day essentials at the top of the hill in Bucks Cross, and a deli in Woolsery, 3-miles away. Alternatively, you'll find a choice of supermarkets and other shops in Bideford. The popular Hoops Inn is around a 45-minute walk away from Melinda's, following footpaths through the woods, fields and quiet country lanes. The renowned Farmers Arms, Woolsery is a few miles inland from Melinda's - booking is advised. Guests should be aware that the beach at Bucks Mills is reached via a steep path (tarmac) that is not suitable for all. The beach is pebbly but at low tide stretches of sand are exposed along with rock pools. There are no facilities at the beach, but North Devon's popular surf beaches, including Westward Ho!, Croyde and Bude are all easily accessible by car and offer surf hire and surf lessons. The cottage garden offers plenty of space to enjoy ball games or for children to let off steam running around. There's also a bench to sit back and read or watch the butterflies in the summer months. Free WiFi. All electricity is included in the price. One small well behaved dog is welcome at no extra charge, but please take care to ensure our soft furnishings are protected from your dog by bringing your own dog fleeces and please bring your own dog towels . Please also be aware that the garden is not secure so dogs cannot be left unattended. Good base for exploring North Devon and Cornwall. Bucks Mills is perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle of modern living. There are no street lights in the village (so it's great for stargazing) - a torch is recommended! As well as the natural playground of the beach, there is a choice of theme parks for children nearby (the Big Sheep and the Milky Way) as well as the excellent North Devon Wake Park for wakeboarding and family fun at the aqua park (this is normally popular with teenagers too). Bucks Mills is ideal for one couple or families of two adults with up to two children who are looking for a quiet, unspoilt beach to play and swim. It's also ideal if you enjoy walking and discovering nature. It's probably not the best choice of location if you like a busy atmosphere. Guest access Entire house, own garden and parking for one car in a lay-by shared by the three cottages in 'no through road' outside. Also, free public parking available in the car park at the entrance of the village approximately 200m away. keysafe entry. Other things to note We provide bed linen, towels (not dog towels or beach towels), and beds will be ‘made up’ for when you arrive. If needed, heaters will be on when you arrive. The heated towel rail is on a timer and will come on twice a day - press boost button if you need it at other times. Essentials available from the village shop at Bucks Cross or there's a choice of supermarkets in Bideford.
