Welcome to Aquila Cottage which is located directly on the Hadrians Wall Path, Pennine Way and Hadrians Cycleway Route 72. The cottage is in an unparallelled location just 150 yards from "the best bit" of Hadrians Wall at Walltown Crags and directly opposite the Roman Army Museum. There is parking for 1 vehicle as well as a bus stop right (services include AD122) outside. We are perfectly located for walking, visiting the historical sites along Hadrians Wall, Lake District & Scottish Borders. The space Aquila cottage provides a modern, contemporary space, with rustic, country touches by way of its exposed beams and log burning stove. Tranquil, yet accessible and close to amenities, it is a fully equipped home from home. A stay here will afford you total freedom to do as you please, whether that be staying in and relaxing with a glass of wine by the cosy log burning stove and enjoying a home cooked meal (making use of the fully equipped kitchen) or enjoying a short 15 minute walk to the local pub which serves delicious home cooked meals, the choice is yours! Aquila Cottage is a perfect retreat for anybody who enjoys the great outdoors, with the countries best walking trails accessible literally from the front door. Many of our guests enjoy walking directly from the cottage along Hadrians wall, to Cawfields, Housesteads and Steel Rigg, before taking in lunch and a drink or two at either The Twice Brewed or Milecastle Inn, then hopping onto the AD122 bus (which stops right outside the cottage), for the return journey. It really is the best of both worlds! Our location in the Northumberland National Park, dark sky zone (adjacent to Walltown Quarry which is a designated dark sky discovery site where the milky way can be seen with the naked eye on a clear, dark night and where star gazing events take place through the darker months) also makes it a must for stargazers. What makes it most unique though is its proximity to Hadrians Wall ( approx 100m away). Our proximity, literally a few feet from The Roman Army Museum/Magna Fort also makes this the perfect accommodation choice for volunteer excavators at Magna without the need for additional transport/hire car. We are 2.5 miles from the closest town of Haltwhistle and 10 miles from the pretty Cumbrian market town of Brampton (our postal town and postcode are Brampton but we are in Northumberland). Please note, there is some restricted head height in some areas of the bedroom due to the sloping roof, as can be seen in the photographs. As we are a registered holiday accommodation provider it is a requirement that all guests are required to check in by providing us with their full home address ahead of arrival. Please note that this is a condition of your booking and therefore non negotiable. Parking is available for 1 private car.
