Canny Brow Barn

Only 15 minutes drive to both The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, we are perfectly placed for a family or friends getaway. Our converted Lakeland barn features a log fire, stone walls, wooden and natural slate floors and exposed beams. With direct access to the garden overlooking open countryside, outdoor seating, private parking and an optional hot tub, this makes the perfect Lake District holiday home. The space We converted this Lakeland Hay barn in 1992 from its original working state and over the years it has evolved into a beautiful family home. We have character features of stone walls, wooden and natural floors a real log fire and exposed beams. This is a child friendly home with us having brought up our three children here and the facilities offered provide for family needs. Inside the spacious Lakeland barn there are an abundance of characterful features. Downstairs there are two lounges, one a cosy room with a TV and wood burner, the second with an open aspect and informal seating with access to outdoor seating and garden. There is a downstairs WC. There is a large country style kitchen, a great space for dining and entertaining with a large table and chairs as well as a kitchen island. Just off from the kitchen is a useful laundry/boot room with a washing machine, tumble dryer, sink and drying rack. Upstairs there are four large double bedrooms with stunning views. These are all tastefully decorated in a country style reflecting the barns location. One bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and there is a large main bathroom. Set outside the hamlet of and overlooking Gatebeck on the side of a hill with views of the open countryside including the Lakeland fells. 'Canny Brow’ is derived from the Westmorland dialect ‘Coney Brow’ meaning the 'hill of rabbits’. Sheep and cattle are more prevalent now along with plenty of other wildlife. Our location is ideally situated for access into the Lake District, Yorkshire and Lancashire for access to the hills and dales with the market towns of Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale being only a short drive away. In the locality there is a riding school and for the more adventurous, off-road driving, quad biking and paint balling is available. Ideal if your group enjoys alternative activities. Within walking distance is the village of Endmoor with pub, children’s playground and tennis courts. If you prefer time to relax then our garden is ideal for this. The garden at the front of the house has a long space for lounging and games or just kicking a ball around. Outside there are various outdoor areas for sitting and enjoying the views over the countryside. There is an eight seat external dining table and chairs of along with a large gas barbecue (gas included). The private entrance at the front has direct views and access to the garden and Lakeland hills beyond. We are a rural location which means that vehicular access would be optimal, and there is parking for up to 5 cars. There is a bus service (567) from Endmoor village to Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale and Ingleton. Rail access is provided via Oxenholme railway station on the main West Coast line between London and Glasgow about 4 miles away. Travelling to us from London would be 2hrs. 40 by direct train. It’s only a short journey from the railway station. Guest access All the areas illustrated in the photographs you will have full access to. This area comprises the front garden access part of the barn. We will be in the adjoining part of the barn. You can Check in after 4 pm and up to 10 pm. Check out is before 11 am. Early check-in and check-out is available only by prior arrangement. Up to 3 hours early check-in is available for £80. We will be on site to receive you. Other things to note We have four double bedded bedrooms. An optional extra is our newly installed hot tub. This is a private hot tub which is available by special arrangement prior to your visit. 2 night cost (when available) is £180, 3 night cost is £240, 4 to 6 nights is £320. Please note that this must be booked and paid for in advance. Payment can be made through Airbnb so just let us know after booking.
