Eco-bach inside a kiwi sanctuary

Private hideaway inside Waiaro Sanctuary. Pristine native forest, untouched streams and all the privacy and peace you could want Outdoor bath with amazing view, hammocks beneath the trees. The space Waiaro won 2015 "Best Eco" in local award for holiday rental "bach" in NZ. The bush in the area is in great condition and is bordered by the Coromandel Forest Park, and you can walk from the door right to the summit of Moehau if you are intrepid. But the best wildlife and forest is near the streams within Waiaro Sanctuary itself so if you just walk up the two stream beds it is a nice explore and easy to find your way there and back. The two streams have quite different characters. Actually you can see a lot by lying in the hammock and letting it come to you, or sitting on the deck with a cold glass and the binoculars. The tracks in the bush are marked for trapping of predators but can be tough for novices to find and follow, so if you go wandering you need to navigate yourself. Sticking to a ridgeline is a good policy as you can always go back. Kiwi live at Waiaro and you may hear them at night but you wont see them. The bush is too thick and we no longer have them tracked as we have decided they do best with least interference. We have just completed audio monitoring so have fingers crossed that they are still increasing. You have 200 acres of bush to wander around without crossing a boundary, and when you do you won't see a fence anyway. Guest access The whole house is for your use and there are 200 acres of grounds, mostly forest. No fences. Other things to note The house is completely off-grid i.e. no phone, mobile, data, or mains electricity. Waiaro runs on solar power and hot water with gas stove and fridge/freezer. The fire also heats the water and there is a generator should the batteries run dry. This does mean you may need to think more about your power use etc. than in a normal homes. If this sort of thing doesn't suit you then you may find other "on-grid" places more suitable.
