Description
Unlike the crowded wind-swept cliffs of Oia, Mansion Sophia (often preferred by VIPs) offers a "Meltemi-proof" private oasis. Our high-walled, 19th-century aristocratic courtyard protects you from the island's strong winds and prying eyes, ensuring you can enjoy your private Moroccan pool & alfresco dining in perfect stillness. A manual 5-seater Car Rental (Cat. B) is included. *This does NOT apply for special offers and is not guaranteed for last-minute reservations, subject to availability. The space The peaceful village of Megalochori makes a much sought after and appreciated alternative to the bustling and jostling of busier villages like Oia or Fira. Mansion Sophia, a rare find, is just a short stroll from the central village square with its pretty churches and picturesque Venetian bell towers. The village, with its winding cobbled pathways, is free of traffic. The imposing large wooden entrance gates of Mansion Sophia conceal a secluded and pretty private courtyard, complete with a Moroccan style swimming pool. This high-walled design creates a wind-protected sanctuary, shielding you from the strong Meltemi winds and prying eyes found elsewhere on the island. This absolute privacy is why the mansion is often preferred by VIPs and celebrities seeking anonymity while enjoying the pool and dining area in perfect stillness. Double doors lead directly from the courtyard into a spacious lounge and dining area with its superb high vaulted ceilings and original polished wooden floors. Meticulously renovated using Feng Shui principles, the villa balances historic grandeur with warmth and character. The two double bedrooms, one master and one smaller second bedroom, lead off from either side of the central living room. The master bedroom has a majestic four-poster double bed. One bathroom, with modern amenities, services both bedrooms. The well equipped kitchen has an original stone arch which now serves as a washing up and preparation area. The coup-de-grace is the lovely kitchen garden, perfect for enjoying alfresco meals under blue skies whilst absorbing the village atmosphere. Mansion Sophia was built around the mid 19th century and inhabited by one of the feudal landlords of the island at that time. These merchants and land barons became wealthy exporting the unique Vinsanto wine the island still produces. Trade brought wealth and wealth brought the Mansion Houses. Megalochori had a particularly strong link with the town of Odessa in Imperial Russia (long before the Bolshevik era). Many of the church bells which still toll in the village today are from that period and have a lovely melodic tone. This Mansion is perfect for those ready to switch off their mobiles, put their feet up, sit back and enjoy Santorini from a different perspective. While the villa offers fast, high-speed Wi-Fi (200 Mbps+) should you need it, it invites a digital detox. All major tourist attractions, including Fira and Oia, as well as the best beaches of the island are only a short drive away.
