The space Featuring underfloor heating in the entrance way and both bathrooms. Open plan living with modern, quality kitchen and dining as well as a cosy lounge area with fire place. Two bedrooms with king size beds that can be converted into comfortable singles and a sofa bed in the entrance area for the extra person or guest. The master bedroom has got a heat pump providing warmth in winter and a cool environment during summer. Whatever your activity, The ‘Grumpy Trout’ is only minutes away from the action; fly fishing, mountain biking or tramping. Red Hut Bridge Pool and the Tongariro River walking and biking trail are within walking distance. A mere 45 minutes’ drive to Tongariro National Park with walking tracks catering for all capabilities and the same distance to Whakapapa Ski Field for all those winter activities. For the more adventuresome, the beginning of the Tongariro Alpine crossing is 15 minutes from the front gate. To make your experience extra special there will always be plenty of firewood. Outside is a covered fish cleaning and fish smoking area as well as a drying/storage room for your outdoor gear. Due to our location we are unable to offer TV reception; there is a TV monitor, and DVD-player as well as a generous library of DVD’s. Wifi is available through Starlink. Apple play is not an available feature through the existing monitor. Guest access The Grumpy Trout Lodge offers 140m2 of modern, comfortable living. All appliances are of high quality and there for you to enjoy. The outside deck area is spacious and perfect for al fresco dining. There is a covered space for taking care of the ’catch of the day’ with both a hot smoker and a cold smoker. If you are here hunting, there is a big chiller on the property that can be used for hanging/storing (talk to Jono). Other things to note Pets as in dogs We are happy to welcome your pets but please let us know beforehand what breed of dog you are planning to bring with you. We have got a dog ourselves, Ziggy, a collie/huntaway cross. If you are bringing your pet, here are some things to consider. There is no kennel available for outdoor dogs. Our property has got a 30-meter deer fence towards State Highway One. Surrounding most of the rest of the property is a stock-standard wire fence 90cm high with gaps of 25x33 cm. A very agile dog could jump it. Small, slim, and curious dogs could get through it. When vehicles enter or leave the property, any pet needs to be managed. The gate needs to be closed at all times. We are NOT happy for you to leave your dogs alone inside the lodge for more than maximum 3 hours. If you are planning on going skiing for the day you will have to make arrangements for your dog. Please note that ‘Cleaning during your stay’ is in the meaning of an offering of a weekly change of linen for stays exceeding a week.
