Beachfront/oceanfront hideaway, perfect for 1 or 2 or family/group getaways. Tucked away at the end of South Piha beach – the best location on the most popular surf beach in New Zealand. Magic atmosphere, beautiful ever changing front row view of of beach, ocean and rugged coastline. Steps from the gate to the soft fine sand, the best surfing, patrolled swimming, and wonderful eco-hiking a stone's throw away. Or just relax and watch the world go by, from the deck or the fireside. The space Glass doors open up the entire front of the house, polished wood floors. Panoramic beach and ocean views from the large deck, master bedroom and open plan kitchen/living area (with large conference/dining table). Grounds sand/grass and mature native bush, frontage fenced. Fresh lemons most of the year, herbs in the garden. There are deck chairs and outside table setting. Sheltered from almost all winds, the house is orientated to the weather: In summer, wonderful ancient pohutukawa trees, covered in a mass of red flowers in December, provide shade and frame for the hammock, overlooking the summer bustle from your front row seat on the deck. In winter, full sun: sunbathe on the deck or private roof if it is sunny; if not, toast marshmallows and yourself in front of a roaring fire by the roaring ocean , watching the storms rage over the sea, after a dip, a surf, exploring the beach, tramping, canyoning, dinner party or a night out... with our trashy novels, jigsaws, board games, on demand TV. Peaceful, wild, energizing, inspiring. Romantic for a single, or couple, comfortable for a family up to 6, with overflow sleeping. One of the earliest batches built in Piha (shipped in before there was a road), extended over the years, this is our family holiday home. It is not hotel or resort - it is old, beachy, a bit quirky, relaxed and unfussy, in a rustic natural setting. Many people, famous and infamous, have enjoyed our house, since 1999 (recently, our former deputy Prime Minister was married and honeymooned here; Anika Moa's interview of Martin Henderson and Tiki Tane's music video "Summertime" were filmed at our house). Most of the surf/beach scenes in the TV series "800 words" (TVNZ on demand) were shot directly in front of our house. And yes, the light is really like that. Up to 12 guests can squeeze upstairs, in the master bedroom, the small bunk room off it, the small double back bedroom, the futon couches (in the living room, out on the deck, under the stars, or in front of the fire). The basement "cave" is rough, but can be used in good weather instead of the couches, (damp in bad weather, there is a dehumidifier, use at your own risk!). Guest access All indoor and outdoor areas - except the studio/garage (a separate building on the property). Other things to note ♦ AIRBNB DOES NOT PERMIT FUNCTIONS BOOKINGS THROUGH IT'S SITE. ♦ COVID NOTES: Our house is available during level four lockdown, what better way to spend a lockdown than on holiday at the beach! If you want to book in advance, to stop anyone else from booking, then are unable or unwilling to use it due to lockdowns or any other reason, our cancellation policy applies to compensate us for the loss of other bookings you have blocked. If you are worried about cancelling, you can get travel insurance, or take your chances that our house will be available and book the day before. :) ♦ THERE IS A $350 SURCHARGE FOR AIRBNB COVID-19 PRE-CLEANING REQUIREMENTS IMPOSED FOR ALL BOOKINGS. AIRBNB REQUIRES CLEANING ALL WALLS ETC [BUT NOT CARPETS], MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING. THIS CHARGE IS ADDITIONAL TO ANY POST-STAY CLEANING REQUIRED UNDER OUR HOUSE RULES. ♦ The 2 basement bedrooms are BASIC. Can be used in summer instead of the couches, can be damp in bad weather, and could potentially flood in exceptional storms. They are not part of the accommodation for 12, which is upstairs (the more people, the less comfortable). They are a bonus at no charge. Please do not mark down our ratings because of them! :-)
