Description
A restructured 16th century house in the historical district of Bernalda. Built on three levels the house has a downstairs living space with queen sofa bed and bath, and full kitchen. Upstairs the loft area is a spacious bedroom with queen bed, and access to the terraces above, with 360 degree views of the town and the Ionian sea. All amenities in the full kitchen, free wifi, washer, roof gazebo, barbeque, AC. Extra bed by request. All the comforts of home for a relaxing and unique stay. The space The house, which we called "La Casa del Gufo," or "The Owl House," is situated on a quiet street with no through traffic. It was originally built as part of the monastery complex which occupied the area in the 1600's, and has since seen modest modifications, but has been continuously occupied since that time. We completely restructured it in 2014, conserving the best architectural elements and adding some of our own. It is a small house on three levels, 70 square meters (about 630 square feet) plus two terrace levels with a 360 degree view of the town and the Ionian sea. Located on a quiet street, with ample free parking on the nearby church piazza. Downstairs there is a bathroom with washing machine, and shower, a fully-equipped kitchen, a living area with double sofa bed and digital television. Kitchen includes oven, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and tea kettle, as well as all necessary kitchen utensils. The small storage room contains shelves for storing luggage, an iron and ironing board, and a folding bed if needed. There is a mini split air conditioner for cooling or heating, although with walls three feet thick the inside temps are constant except on the hottest days. Upstairs there is a large bedroom space with queen bed, wardrobe, desk and credenza, and space for a fold-out if needed. The bedroom has black-out shades, as well as a folding screen which blocks light from the small balcony which overlooks the living area below. Upstairs from the bedroom there is a small terrace which has a private view of the church dome, which is exceptional when illuminated in the evening. The perfect place for a glass of good Aglianico! (Yes, the church tower has a bell which rings during the day, but with only at reasonable hours.) Up again to the larger terrace area, where there is a 10 by 10 foot gazebo, barbeque, hose hook-up, and splendid views in every direction. Laundry can be hung on the drying rack here as well. High speed internet is always available to guests. To make our guests feel welcome, we will be available to answer questions or help with touring ideas. We are happy to provide explanations of the local points of interest, including museums, restaurants, and ideas for day trips. If our guests request it, we will provide a welcome basket of local food items for an additional 25 Euros. Please request 24 hours ahead of arrival. Guest access Guests have access to all parts of the property, which is 100 percent private. Other things to note history of the house: We bought the little house with the intention of sharing it with people who wish to discover an area of Italy which is off the beaten path. We have totally restructured the house, and if I dare say so, it is fantastically unique and well-appointed. Finally proof that we should have been architects! The house has every comfort, and Francesco and I are almost always available to help out our guests if they need assistance, explanations, or recommendations. Registration Details IT077003C203427001
