Enjoy the beauty of Athens County just a short drive from Ohio University via a single county road. Water's Edge, an exceptionally clean 2nd story apartment, ideal for 1 person or couple, overlooks a 3-acre pond on 5 acres in a safe rural subdivision. With every amenity you need, including fast wi-fi, it’s a perfect accommodation when visiting OU, attending music festivals, hiking the hills, or looking for an inspirational writer’s/artist’s retreat. No swimming/boating/beach. Max occupancy: 2 The space This second-story apartment is 800+ square feet and has a separate entrance from the owner's home. It is very private and features a gorgeous view from the deck, as well as amenities you have at home, including a fully-equipped kitchen, television (streaming services: Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and PBS), towels, bedding, blow dryer, toiletries, and more. You will have wireless access and internet as well. The apartment has one bedroom with a comfortable queen-size bed. Guest access You have full access to the apartment.The deck outside the apartment has a small table and chairs and offers a stunning view. You are welcome to stroll the grassy lane on the other side of the pond across from our house, go fishing (but bring your own pole and throw fish back in after you catch them -- we have a catch-and-release policy), or have a picnic. Swimming and kayaking are not permitted. Our own private “yard” is on the opposite end of the house. If you wander over to the other side of the pond, you may spot my husband gardening or working on an outdoor project in our yard. Other things to note We live in the hills and, therefore, guests should set up their cell phones for wireless calling. We provide quality coffee, raw, organic sugar, and one small container of organic milk per guest. The apartment has its own HVAC system, so guests stay comfortable whatever the weather/season. We do ask that guests be eco conscious by setting AC to 75 degrees and furnace to 67 degrees if they are out of the apartment for long stretches. The thermostat can easily be re-adjusted upon returning home. We have a moderate cancellation policy, meaning that if you need to cancel, and if you do it more than 5 days in advance, you will be fully refunded. During the winter, we are happy to reimburse guests whose visits are cancelled at the very last minute due to snow and/or ice; however, Airbnb will retain their service fee. Getting in is easy: we leave the apartment door open when we know a guest is arriving. You'll find your key on the kitchen table. Athens is located in the foothills, so expect hilly terrain. No problem in the spring, summer, and fall, but winter can get dicey. Winter guests are wise to book last minute so they know what the weather will be. As little as a couple of inches make travel outside the city challenging if not dangerous. Water’s Edge sits well above Athens but the house, itself, is at the base of a hill. Please keep in mind we do not allow pets under any circumstances. Although we are animal lovers, we keep the apartment animal-free. (Documented support pets are the only exception. See “house rules.”) Measures to protect your health: If you’ve read our reviews, you know that many of our guests have rated Water’s Edge as exceptionally clean. Even before fears of a mysterious (corona) virus emerged, we took every cleaning measure we could to ensure our guests’ safety, including wiping down surfaces with disinfectant wash (paying special attention to door knobs, light and lamp switches, faucet handles, and the TV remote). We use anti-allergen covers for mattresses and bed pillows (please don't remove; these are washed regularly) Please note that we keep disinfectant wipes under the kitchen sink. We open windows (even in the winter) between guest visits in order to fully ventilate the space. **Guests must be 21 to book.
