Description

Escape on an adventurous trip in the Empress Room. Decorated with an Egyptian motif, it's exotic flair will have you thinking of distant lands. The room includes extensive woodwork, original fixtures, and a walk-in closet. Includes the sitting room. Please note that while the Albanus Phillips Inn offers a variety of room styles and sizes, we limit the amount of reservations to ensure an adequate level of quality and service. The space this private manor turned Bed & Breakfast was originally built and owned by the world renowned businessman Colonel Albanus Phillips Jr. of the famous Phillips Packing Company. Completed in 1903 and added on to for the next several years, this ten bedroom house was built as a Queen Anne Victorian integrating Italian Renaissance and Edwardian features and is lavishly adorned with colonnades and massive wood accents. Italian marble enhances the beauty of the interior and exterior, including three types of marble on the front porch alone. Marble slabs, 8” thick and 18” deep, were used on the windows, both on the sills and the lintels, even on the lower level windows. The exterior brick of the house was imported from Venice, Italy. The home has been visited by many famous guests including the President Teddy Roosevelt in 1908 and his nephew, President Franklin D. Roosevelt on his trip to Cambridge in 1935 to dedicate the new bridge between Dorchester and Talbot County. Today, the home serves as a Bed & Breakfast in this historic West End of Cambridge in the "Heart of the Chesapeake," Dorchester County. Guest access Includes access to the "His" and "Her" parlors and African room, and Conservatory located on the first floor. Other things to note The local taxes, State Tax 6% and County Room Tax 5%, will be paid by guests at the time of arrival and have not been charged by Airbnb and these are separate.
