Description
Pineridge Cabin is a cozy honeymooner's get-away nestled on a wooded hillside at 9,400 feet above sea level. It is located nine miles from Cripple Creek, to the south, and nine miles from Divide, to the north, and thirty-fives miles west of downtown Colorado Springs. Approximately forty-five miles from the Colorado Springs Airport and 122 miles from the Denver International Airport. It offers all of the amenities of home except a washer and dryer but the scenery and views well make up for it. The space The cabin is 640 square feet with wood burning stove and most all amenities of home except for a washer and dryer. It sits on an acre and a half on a somewhat steep hillside on the western slope of Pikes Peak. It is located 2.5 miles from Mueller State Park for miles of hiking trails and endless wildlife. Just next to that is the Crags that offers the western slope trail straight to the top of Pikes Peak. Eleven Mile Reservoir and the South Platte River are about 18 miles away. And in the cabin are brochures for endless activities in and around the area to include Colorado Springs. An All-wheel drive (preferred) or front-wheel drive is required for 1 April through 31 October and an All-wheel drive or Four-wheel is required 1 November through 31 March. Front-wheel drive vehicles will not make it up the driveway in the event of winter storms and per county ordinance there is no parking on the road if you cannot make it up the driveway. Early winter storms in October and late winter storms in April may require us to extend the months for vehicle needed. The winters are very difficult to predict and safety is of high concern. No Rear-wheel drive only vehicles any time throughout the year. The driveway is somewhat steep and it is gravel and rear-wheel drive will spin the tires all the way up the driveway allowing the rain to wash it out. The closest neighbor is a cabin about 100 yards away to the north of us and another home down below the road at about the same distance. A Note to interested folks: We have encountered some extensive damage due to the neglect of past guests either not reading our house guidelines once they have booked or simply not following our guest expectations, operating procedures, and guidelines once they have check in. This cabin is our personal property and not a chain hotel such as the Hilton. We as hosts, and the folks who take care of the cabin at guest checkout, do take pride in keeping our cabin clean and in great shape for not only our guests to use and enjoy, but also for our personal use and enjoyment when we have the time. There are some simple guidelines that need to be reviewed and understood once you have reserved the cabin. The operating procedures for fireplace use, hot tub use, heat settings, and lock up procedures are set in place for guests who have never used these items before. And they are also put in place to ensure our cabin or hot tub does not freeze in the sub-zero winter weather due to neglect; or the cabin does not catch on fire due to unfamiliarity or neglect in the use of the fireplace. We also ask that guests leave the cabin in the condition found upon check in. We do not live near the cabin and it is only polite to leave the cabin neat and tidy just as you found it and not leave our cabin in a condition as if you were checking out of the hotel. The person that takes care of the cabin comes from 17 miles away in rain, shine, or snow to help us keep it in order. We do not expect a deep cleaning but we do ask that you clean up/pick up after yourself prior to checkout. Unfortunately guests cannot see the "Simple House Guidelines" until you reserve our cabin. But if you do reserve the cabin and cannot agree to the "Simple House Guidelines" in helping take care of the cabin, please promptly cancel your reservations and find another listing to choose from. We do apologize for sounding this way but it is frustrating and upsetting when extensive damage is caused due to neglect when the "Simple House Guidelines" are clearly identified and are very easy to follow. Thank you. Guest access There is a variety of restaurants and local attraction including the old gold mining town of Cripple Creek now famous for it's casinos and gold mine tours and its very own narrow gauge train ride. Look up "Activities in the Pikes Peak Area" on the internet. Other things to note After a day of activities relax in the private hot tub to wind down. There is an abundant of wild life in our area so be aware. We have bears and mountain lions roaming through the neighborhood and often the mothers are traveling with cubs. Make sure to talk a little louder to allow the animals to know that you are there and give them a chance to leave in the opposite direction. Look out the doors and windows before going outside to make sure there is not an animal on the steps or the decks. Be sure to follow the trash requirements and do not leave any trash or food items outside. There's also a lot deer near the cabin. The deer are used of being around people but they remain somewhat skittish, as they should be. Again, please do not leave food out, hand feed, or attempt to touch or pet any of the wild life. The deer will come in close to you if you allow them too but maintain a safe distance and run them off if needed. They are wild animals and they can become aggressive and defend themselves if they feel threatened. Their hooves are very sharp and the males have large antlers that are also sharp. Last thing, our cabin is in the mountain where the wild life also includes mice. From time to time we have encountered a mouse in the cabin and we do everything within our power to keep them out. We have searched, sealed and attempted to mitigate every point that we have deemed possible for them to enter through over the years but the little critters sometimes find their way back in and we fight the battle once a mouse arrives. Sometimes the mouse wins by finding another entry point and sometimes we win by catching and evicting them as soon as possible upon arrival. So if you have a fear of mice, there is a possibility that one may enter from time to time. We just need to know immediately. It’s usually in the winter months but can happen in summer months, too. Please enjoy the outdoor wild life, as they are wonderful to watch, but do keep a safe distance from them and please let us know if you see indoor wild life.
