Casa di Romano - The Piazzetta
Casa di Romano, La Piazzetta
Description
La Casa di Romano is a farmhouse with a dovecote, built in the typical local style. Built in the 1400s, it is made of lime and round stones. It is located in Marcialla, in the heart of Chianti, on a hill offering a 360-degree view of a typical Tuscan landscape, with hills rolling down to the horizon, characterized by vineyards, olive trees, and cypresses. The location is ideal for visiting the most beautiful places in our region. It is located halfway between Siena and Florence. The space La Piazzetta is a small independent accommodation, in the courtyard in front of the farmhouse, consisting of a kitchen, double bedroom and bathroom. The adjacent terrace, equipped with table and chairs and lounge chairs, allows you to enjoy the beautiful view of the valley below and enjoy an evocative relaxation. Under the house’s loggia, you will also find the distinctive, large wood-fired oven, which the farmers used to bake bread throughout the week, also built with a stone vault. It is still fully operational today, and the roasts cooked in it have a different flavor than those cooked using traditional methods. For guests who wish, we can prepare dinners by reservation. The hill on which the house stands is called “Il Sodo,” because the ground on which it was built is made up of fragmented stones compacted in such a way as to make it extremely hard, to the point that the house did not require foundations when it was constructed. Inside the house, there is a cellar, dug into the solid rock, which descends downwards and emerges from the hill below the apartment. There, you can admire the unique shape of the terrain. The house offers a total of 12/13 beds, divided into three independent apartments, two located in the main building and one outside, converted from the old tractor shed. Therefore, it is also perfect for groups of friends who decide to spend their vacations together while maintaining their privacy. Other things to note : The location is perfect for exploring all the most beautiful places in our region. You can easily reach Monteriggioni, Siena, and Montalcino by following the ancient Via Cassia, built by the Romans, the ribbon of asphalt that follows the gentle undulations of our hills, revealing breathtaking landscapes along the way. Certaldo, the birthplace of Giovanni Boccaccio, is a 10-minute drive away. Perched on a small hill, the old part of the town is unique in that it is built of red brick, and it still retains all its charm to this day. From Certaldo, it’s a 15-minute drive to San Gimignano, with its distinctive towers, and you can then continue on to Volterra, famous for its alabaster, where, in summer, the hills turn golden thanks to the barley and wheat crops. From there, you can get to the sea in no time, in the coastal area of Livorno. Every summer, in the village square, just a stone’s throw from the house, a pizzeria opens, and the local tourism board organizes musical events. I recommend buying the bread (traditional Tuscan unsalted bread) and the schiacciata from the local bakery, which are truly excellent. For golf enthusiasts, a trip to Castelfalfi is a must. This historic village is located in the Montaione area, about a half-hour drive from Marcialla, and is home to a beautiful golf course and access to the resort’s spa. If you feel like shopping, if you drive about 15 kilometers on the A1 motorway in the direction of Rome and take the Incisa exit, you will find THE MALL outlet, which is renowned for offering the most famous brands at heavily discounted prices. In the nearby town of Tavarnelle, about 3 miles away, you will find very well-stocked supermarkets that also sell traditional Tuscan food products, such as cured meats and fresh pasta… Not to mention the numerous wineries that offer tastings and sell wine and olive oil. There is no shortage of restaurants, from simple but tasty trattorias to more upscale options. Registration Details IT048054C298DH9IRM
