Finding your place in the world is the result of the efforts and dreams of a lifetime. Today such a place exists, it is found halfway between Siena and Montalcino and is called Farfalle. After a few kilometres, halfway between the loose earth of the fields and the endless sky, you will find an ancient Tuscan villa. Almost fifty years ago, my father discovered this small paradise and decided to restore an old casa colonica following the simple architectural rules of traditional rural villas. Take a look all around yourselves: from Monsole, sight is heeded by nothing but the horizon. This is my place in the world and I am glad to share it with you. Come and visit me, I will offer you kind hospitality and will do anything I can to make you feel at home. Carmela Featuring an entrance opening directly onto a large garden, Farfalle (Italian for "Butterflies") can host up to four guests. As soon as you enter, you will find yourself in a bright kitchen, open to the living room. A handmade chimney, carved from ancient stones found on the spot, makes the atmosphere all the more warm and welcoming. The apartment is furnished according to the traditional simplicity of Tuscan life and with unique pieces collected in the course of a lifetime: two collections of old keys; an antique bathroom in the traditional Tuscan style and the unique kitchen tiles, coming from far away, to name just a few examples. The walls are steeped in stories and anecdotes; just ask, each detail carries a story. Sleep and Wake Up in a Dream The two comfortable and tastefully furnished rooms each have a private bathroom with shower. This is the ideal place to return to after spending a long day outdoors. Before you fall asleep, take a moment to have a closer look at the beams and terracotta bricks on the ceiling or at the antique furniture. Just think, those lovingly restored pieces of furniture once belonged to my grandparents... They have been here for longer than any of us! Reflecting upon the day that just passed, lie down on the bed and enjoy absolute silence. The surrounding peace makes dreaming easier. Dream On Waking up in the morning to open the French doors and take a few steps on a dewy lane is priceless. And the dream continues... As soon as you wake up, breathe in the fresh, morning air and have breakfast outside. Here, you will decide the direction your day will take. Here, many things are possible: relax in the sunlight, read in the pergola's shade, let yourself be inspired from the panoramic view and paint or lose yourself in the surrounding countryside, to stop and take a picture at every corner. Long walks can be taken without having to worry about time limits and, if you pass by during the right time of the year, you might find some white truffles... there are plenty of them around here! Moreover, animal lovers will have the chance to see flocks of grazing sheep and horses, pheasants, hares, deer... If you look up just a little bit more, you might be lucky enough to spot herons, hawks and many other different bird species. Here, nature has no limits. At lunch, take a seat in the shade and enjoy a salad made of fresh vegetables from the garden, served with local olive oil. For lovers of good food and good wine, the choice is endless: try pecorino from Pienza, olive oil from San Quirico d'Orcia, truffles from San Giovanni d'Asso, wine from Montalcino and Montepulciano. Buy local produce and let your fantasy guide you in the preparation of delicious recipes in your open kitchen, on the barbecue or in the bread and pizza oven. If you wish, I will be glad to share a few cooking secrets with you... all you have to do is ask! Everything Starts and Ends in the Garden Start and end every day in a spacious, lovingly cared garden featuring a pergola with tables, sun loungers, an oven and a barbecue area: an authentic, natural terrace upon Val d'Orcia. In the morning, walk barefoot on the dewy lane until the pergola to have breakfast bathing in the morning sunlight. In the evening, between a glass of wine and the other, take a large mouthful of pure air in the deep tranquillity. If you have some time left before going to sleep, try counting the constellations; they are all visible from here. Other things to note The tourist tax in the Municipality of Montalcino is divided into price brackets and amounts to 2 Euros per person if the average price of the stay per person per night is less than 100 Euros, 4 Euros if the average price per person per night is between 100 and 250 Euros, and 5 Euros if it exceeds 250 Euros. It has to be paid upon arrival in cash. Children under 14 are exempt. The heating, if used, is metered and billed based on consumption, with meter readings taken upon arrival and departure.
