A place for nature worship and peace, away from the touristy hub of McLeodganj. The space Quaint, clean room with a comfortable bed / mattress in an old village mud house, with slate roof and wooden beams is your home. Your private room in the house comes with basic comfort and it stays warm in winters due to thick mud walls and cool in summers compared to outside temperatures. The toilets and bathrooms are not attached to the room, but they are adjacent in one corner of the mudhouse, they are pretty and clean with warm water. Located on the foothills of snow capped Dhauladhar mountain range, amidst a gurgling stream. You can relax to the sound of birds chirping to the tune of the flowing stream, or take a walk and dip to de-stress in the chilly waters under the sun or simply laze about with a book. If in the presence of other guests make friends with other interesting chilled out visitors as well as locals, if you feel a bit social. The property is very much located within the city but hidden away an easy 8 to 10 minutes walking distance to basic amenities like Pharmacy/Chemist/Cafe/Grocery and liquor/wine store and ATM, but away from the bustle of main road. We are a 2 minute walk from the car park to the property. A perfect place for nature worship and peace, away from the touristy hub of McLeodganj but a close taxi ride away. Guest access Private room, living room, front porch, backyard with a view, shared shower, toilet and utility room. Open fields and a river below. Other things to note FACILITIES / Washroom Shower and loo: We have a western style WC, an Indian toilet and a bamboo bathroom, with a small geyser for bucket bath and utilities - washing machine, and another bathroom with hot shower and a WC. All outside beside the vernadah, it is in the common area, we do not have any attached toilets since it is an old over 125 years old mud house and we have tried to retain the original structure as it was. Most guests find it easy to use but some people prefer attached bath so we mention it before the bookings. FOOD / MEALS: We offer simple home cooked meals. Which need to be PRE-ORDERED, we do not have a menu as I hope you understand that this is just a simple village home where I live with only one person to help cook and another to clean, unlike hotel or guest house. If you have any vegetable or chicken/meat preference you can check in advance with us and we can prepare the same according to your taste and choice. Breakfast Rs 200 per person (Tea/ Coffee, Bread, Butter, Eggs, Juice and Fruit. For vegetarian Aloo Parantha, Butter and Dahi) Lunch / Dinner Vegetarian 250 / Non Vegetarian is 350 - depends on meals you have - Rice / Roti, Daal, veg curry, salad. Or Chicken for non veg. There is hot water kettle for tea and coffee, self service - guests can help themselves morning and evening for tea and coffee or hot water. Apart this we don't allow the access to kitchen, except for storing your own food in the fridge and reheating. Its a small kitchen and get chaotic if all guests request the use of kitchen to cook - with just 1 staff / cook. PARKING: The car does NOT come to the house... you have to walk 2 minutes from the parking. It is an open but safe parking space for bikes and cars. The Ballu is located in a small village by the stream, we are 5 kilometers from main Dharamsala - market Kotwali bazaar and it takes 15 minutes to drive to Dharamsala. McLeodganj is 4 kilometers further up and another 20 minute drive via the steep short route if there's no traffic. On weekends Mcleod road gets jam packed and there's a lot of traffic. You can take an easy 30 to 40 minute walk from the Ballu through the village up towards Dharamsala dari road and end up at walk to Tbetan art/craft - Norbulingka Institute and cafe.
