Description

RENT AN INLAND MAINE WILDERNESS RETREAT FOR A FRACTION OF RENTALS ELSEWHERE IN THE STATE. Xanadu House is a 3bd, 3 bath upscale house nestled against a marsh pond set against the Bigelow Mountain Range Preserve, traversed by Appalachian Trail hikers. Restaurants, boating, hiking, fishing, golf are nearby. Play hard, then soak your aches away in a large outdoor hot tub or indoor sauna/steam room. The Rangeley Lakes, 25 min, Sugarloaf golf, 15 min, Flagstaff Lake, 10 min, Quebec City, 3.5 hr. The space Xanadu House is a Sugarloaf landmark. It has been rented for generations to ski families during the winter. Our past tenants include a two-time Olympic Gold Medal winner, the counselors of a famous wilderness school and the children of renter families from earlier decades. This summer is the first time the Xanadu House has been rented via AirB&B. Guest access Basically, the entire property is made available to renters. It consists of three bedrooms (one a loft). Each of the bedrooms has its own bath, one being a combination bath, shower and sauna. The square footage listed on AirB&B totals a little under 2,000 feet. The owner resides in a breakaway above the garage. Renters have access to the houses W/D, outdoor grill and eight-person outdoor hot tub overlooking the wilderness marsh and Bigelow Mountain range. Other things to note Travelers should be on the lookout for moose which occasionally take early morning dips in the marsh pond. Years ago a ski season friend opened the blinds in the bottom level bay window to discover a large bull moose peering back at her from the front lawn. Renters should take care when driving around sunset when Moose come out to lick the winter road salt on the grass near the roadway. Moose/car collisions are a potential danger because the moose have no fear of automobiles and their coats and eyes are very dark, making them close to invisible in low light.
