This is NOT a new house—it was built in the 70s—but it IS a truly unique and beautiful home and an amazing place to stay. Nestled in a private wooded hillside overlooking the Connecticut River and the tranquil scenery of Old Lyme, this one-of-a-kind modern design villa transports its guests to a vacation setting nearly unheard of in its picturesque surroundings of Southern New England. The home’s sunlight-drenched open floor plan opens up into a vaulted ceiling great room fully wrapped in floor to ceiling windows and skylights. A double-faced contemporary wood fireplace is all that separates a chic dining area and expansive black granite countertop kitchen with full-length windows that invite in the outdoors. A corner standing office with an inspiring view into the valley is partially enclosed in a free-standing wall and accompanied by an angular built-in redwood bookcases with a selection of fiction and non-fiction and children’s books. Atop a curved staircase a terrace overlooks the main living space and leads into 3 modest but comfortable separate bedrooms—all with spectacular views of the river—and 2 full bathrooms. A brand new Yamaha Clavinova digital piano is available for your use while overlooking the river. The television in the great room is a 2019 Samsung Serif QLED design TV with Netflix, Showtime, Amazon Prime, IFC, Apple TV+, and Samsung cable television. The house is Google Home enabled with the ability to control lighting and temperature with voice commands. Fast WiFi blankets the property for a speedy online connection on all your devices. The unfinished basement downstairs is set up for your daily workout with a treadmill, a pull-up bar, TRX fitness cables, 2 plush yoga mats, and an inversion table, and opens up to a lower-level deck with a propane grill, 2 lounge chairs, and views of the river. This home has a lot of light throughout. Even in overcast and rainy days, you'll feel like you are partially outside as the light fills the space. Most of the windows are uncovered with no blinds, including in the bedrooms, so if you like to sleep in PLEASE BRING AN EYE SHADE. But if you love to wake up to spectacular sunrises, you will be very pleased in the mornings as all of the 3 bedrooms have river views. Have an electric car? Amidst a plethora of well-curated theatre-going options and within minutes to several quaint New England town centers, some of Western Connecticut’s top tourist destinations, fine dining, some of CT’s best hiking and biking trails, nice beaches, and premium brand-name outlets. For a car-free get-away, the house is a 15 minute wait for an Uber or Lyft and a ten minutes drive from the Amtrak station. Access to the Connecticut River is a quick 3-minute drive away. The house is 10 minutes from the Old Saybrook train station, servicing Amtrak and Shoreline East. You’ll need a car to see the sites and explore the area. Or take an Uber or a Lyft for usually about a 15 minute wait. An outdoor 40W EV charger with a 25 foot chord and J-1772 plug is available for charging your electric vehicle. By default the charger is turned off so please contact me in advance if you’d like to use it free of charge. A few lights, the door lock, and the thermometer are controlled by a smart speaker and can be adjusted by your voice. Please ask me for details if you need help. The smart speaker can be disabled or unplugged if you’d prefer a more traditional set-up but you will the ability to control some of the lights. I have 5 security cameras on the outside of the house. These are exclusively used to monitor the entrances and driveway while no one is staying or to check up on things in case of an incident or emergency. I respect the privacy of all my guests and will not save or view footage unless there is cause for concern. Please list all guests that will be staying (and those visiting but not staying) at time of booking. I would like to be aware of all people coming to my home.
