Casa Luna, Desert Retreat
Casa Luna was originally built as a yoga studio. Accommodations include: privacy, and space for an immersive desert experience with excellent star gazing. Located less than two miles west of the Terlingua Ghostown, this space offers unobstructed views of the Chisos Mountains, a full kitchen, and full separate bathroom. A 1,400 square foot open studio space with three queen sized beds accommodates six people comfortably. Not suitable for mobility impaired, or children under 12. We live on site. The space Casa Luna is accessible via a short gravel drive navigable in any vehicle. From the top of the driveway a set of stone steps leads down to the main building. There are entry points on the north, east and south sides of the building. The kitchen door at the north west corner of Casa Luna is equipped with a keypad lock and all other doors are equipped with interior locks. As Casa Luna was initially conceived and used as a yoga and dance studio, this space embodies open concept living. The west end of the building can be closed off with two large sliding doors. This western room includes the kitchen space and a sleeping area with a queen size bed, dresser, and end tables. The kitchen has a gas range, microwave, 12 cup drip coffee maker, sink, fridge with freezer, and a generous supply of pots, pans, dishes and cutlery. Small yet thoughtfully appointed, this kitchen area provides everything needed to prepare meals. The eastern portion of Casa Luna has two more queen size beds, a large dining table, and cozy lounging area. With a variety of seating and lounging options surrounded by windows, this larger end of the building is ideal for relaxing and enjoying unparalleled views of the mountains to the east. The south east corner of the building has a door that opens onto three rock steps that lead out and down to the bathroom located in a separate building. Those three rock steps are essentially the entire journey to the bathroom. In the bathroom our guests will find a clawfoot tub with a detachable shower head, toilet and sink. Bath linens, soap, shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided for your convenience and comfort. Heating and cooling options are available throughout the main building and bathroom. Minor cosmetic features such as bedding and furniture placement may be slightly different to the listing photos as we adjust for new inventory and increased comfort. Guest access We want our guests to feel at home while at Casa Luna. We ask only that guests not enter the employees only laundry and storage building to the immediate west of the bathroom. The residence across the bridge on the west side of the driveway is our private residence, and we will come to you should an in person meeting be needed or requested. We value your privacy and will let you know if we need to stop by, usually just to water the plants outside or retrieve supplies from exterior storage. Other things to note Casa Luna features a series of beautiful, rustic, custom built, stone stairs which are not ideal for those with impaired mobility. The stairs between the main building and bathroom are particularly difficult to avoid when one is in a hurry. The exterior lighting for Casa Luna is mostly red and downward facing with the goal of reducing light pollution and enhancing stargazing. Rechargeable flashlights can be found throughout the main building should such be required for an after dark excursion to and from a vehicle, for example. We really enjoy our wildlife at Casa Luna. Observing birds, squirrels, bunnies, and lizards is almost unavoidable. Potentially less cuddly wildlife that may be observed includes, but is not limited to, coyotes, snakes, and javelina. Our resident raven couple will not miss an opportunity to sample an unattended snack, should they judge the risk acceptable.
