Sleeping Bear Cabin is nestled away in a private mountain community that has it's own lake and just a two minute drive to the New River at the entrance of the community. The cabin is surrounded by forest with a main deck and an upper deck. Just recently remodeled and redecorated, we designed Sleeping Bear to be the perfect place for anyone to enjoy the mountain life. Fishing, walking, biking, hiking, tubing, kayaking, bird, butterfly, wildlife watchers and 35 -45 minutes to skiing. Sleeping Bear has three bedrooms all with new beds and sleeps 6. Each room has a different bear theme. It has a beautiful stone fireplace, 43 inch television with Netflix, High Speed Internet, fully stocked kitchen with new stainless cookware and appliances, large oak farm table for dining. New washer and dryer, two bathrooms, and a gym/yoga room. There is a game cabinet with 20 plus board games. The loft has a futon and a desk and chair if you have to work. The main deck has a sofa, benches, rocking chairs, tables and a large 4 burner BBQ. The upper deck has benches, chairs, and a fire pit. The private lake is catch and release and a great place for the kids (or anyone) to catch their first fish. It has a small beach for swimming, tubing and kayaking. The New River is just two minutes at the entrance to the community and the perfect place to go tubing or kayaking. Railroad Grade road that runs along the river has been named several times as the most scenic bicycle route in North Carolina, joggers and walkers also enjoy the road. There are beautiful, safe and peaceful roads and trails in the community to stroll. The cabin is located on a gulch that is full of wildlife, birds, butterflies and fauna only found in the Blue Ridge mountains. A 15 minute drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway brings hiking and breathtaking vistas, 25 minutes from Boone or West Jefferson for great restaurants and shopping. 30 minutes to Appalachian State University. 45 minutes to Ski and Snow Tubing slopes. The managing host (Nancy) lives in the cabin next door and is available should you need anything. Peaceful safe mountain community that is family and Eco friendly while embracing diversity. There is a stream and two lakes along with hiking trails in the community. Roads are maintained year round. During the winter, we usually do not get big snows and the association does a great job keeping the roads clear. Because of the stairs going down to the cabin, Sleeping Bear is not handicap accessible. Although once on the main floor and deck there are no obstacles. The cabin is not childproof.
