The space Old Stavanger, also known as Straen, is the largest surviving wooden house settlement in northern Europe. It is a beautiful area of wooden houses and cobbled streets along the west side of the harbour - just where the cruise ships moor during the summer. The view is fantastic, overlooking the harbour, but in the summertime the view can be blocked by big cruise ships during daytime. They usually leave around 1800. Guest access The two apartments in the house share the front door, and then you will access the upstairs apartment through your own entrance. Note: you will be able to lock your apartment when you come and go. Other things to note The old houses in Gamle Stavanger aren't well sound insulated. You'll hear the neighbours on the 1st floor and also from neighbouring houses. This means it's important to do as the locals do; keep the noise down from eleven at night, til seven in the morning. Also, in the weekends, there can be some noise (music and traffic, coming from the bars & restaurants area, in the city centre, across the harbour.
