The space This newly remodeled studio apartment with private entrance occupies the ground floor of my eclectic Mt. Baker mid-century home. Though the apartment is partially below grade, 7 windows assure an abundance of natural light. You will feel that you are in a luxury hotel suite (at one third the price!), with high quality pressed linens and a spacious bathroom featuring heated floor and handmade tiles. The location is quiet and peaceful with ample free parking. A maximum of 2 adults may stay. Mt. Baker is one of Seattle's most sought after neighborhoods because of its beauty, diversity, proximity to Lake Washington, parks, and every conceivable amenity. By staying here, you can get a sense of how people in Seattle really live. In under 5 minutes (on foot, no less!) you can be on the shores of Lake Washington in a huge park system designed by the famed Olmstead brothers (Central Park). Highlights include a rowing and sailing center, swimming beaches, marinas, miles of hiking, views of Mt. Baker, Mt. Rainier, the Cascade mountains, the iconic floating bridges, Mercer Island, and Bellevue. Also within easy walking distance are soccer fields, tennis courts, and a Pilates studio. The miles of paths along Lake Washington and the perimeter of Seward Park are totally flat- easy for walkers, runners, and cyclists. Hilly nature trails are found within Seward Park- home to bald eagles, coyotes, even a flock of parrots- truly an oasis of wilderness right in the city! There are wonderful coffee shops, pizzerias, cafes, and full size grocery in easy walking distance. A few minutes away is the Columbia City shopping district with one of the city's best bakeries, highly ranked restaurants, neighborhood bars, movie theater, shops, and not one but TWO live music venues. Diversity? Restaurants within a couple blocks of one another: Sicilian, Caribbean, Ethiopian, Senegalese, Mexican, American, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Southern barbeque- you get the picture. Music: The Columbia City Theater is a restored Vaudeville performance space that hosts an up and coming variety of bands from rockabilly to hip hop. The Royal Room features Jazz, World music, and generally attracts a more mature crowd than the Columbia City Theater. The old Ark Lodge building is now the home of a cinema with first run movies-there's something for everyone! There are several nearby bus lines that connect to anywhere in the city. Also Seattle's new LIGHT RAIL system which gets you to the airport in 20 minutes, and to the professional sports stadiums and downtown in even less time. A new station on Capital Hill gives you access to that exciting part of town without the parking nightmares. If you are driving, you will have no problem parking at the apt. There is ample on-street parking and also off-street spaces. I myself take full advantage of Seattle's amazing food and music scene, and will be happy to provide the inside scoop on the best places to go and how to get there. I can also advise on activities outside of the city (mountains, San Juan Islands, etc.). APARTMENT SPECIFICS: The apartment features natural cork floors and has been fully renovated to include a lounge area with stacked stone (gas) fireplace, a kitchenette, queen size bed, and bright new bathroom and closet. The kitchen has a labradorite granite counter top, stainless steel sink, microwave, toaster oven, induction cook plate, electric kettle, French coffee press, drip coffee system, and mini fridge. (There is also a full size refrigerator and freezer in a utility area down the hall.) A sleek vintage sofa (newly reupholstered) and a table that converts from cocktail to dining height complete the comfortable lounge. Dining chairs for your use are available as well. A queen size bed with luxury mattress and high quality linens insure a good night's rest. The bathroom invokes a spa feel with its radiant heat floor, peaceful sea tones and mosaic tiles. Natural marble and stone, hand made ceramic and glass tiles, and vintage touches set this room apart from the humdrum ultilitarian bathrooms usually found in rental spaces. Down the hall is a powder room with laundry sink, washer and dryer, iron and ironing board. (The laundry is also used by owner.) Wireless internet connection and sound system with radio, cd and iPod/phone dock are included. There is a Roku system with various stations, Netflix, and Hulu, etc. The apartment is entered through a private dedicated door with keyless entry through the garage. The entry is completely flat. You are welcome to enjoy the sweet private garden with with a hammock, table and chairs, and hot tub. It is accessible through a gate from the sidewalk. (Several stone stairs lead to the garden.) Although there is ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING IN THE APT- (this includes vapes), you are welcome to enjoy your smoking materials in the garden or anywhere outside. (Smoking inside will cost you your deposit.) Though I should hope it goes without saying for any rental, my home is LGBTQ friendly, and open to all persuasions. (Except mean, nasty, armed, criminal, axe murderers...) I have every confidence that you will love staying here. If you have a party larger than two, I can connect you to a friend with a very nice apt just next door, and another a block away. I am TESOL certified (Teacher of English to Speaker of Other Languages). If you are an international visitor with a desire to improve your English, we can arrange the most fun lessons you have ever experienced -complete with field trips! Come enjoy the comforts of home in Seattle. Guest access The apartment is accessed through a flat, ground level door with keypad entry. Guests may not share the entry code with non-guests, and are responsible for keeping up with door keys. (There is a $50 fee for lost key.) Guests will have access to a laundry/powder room with washer, dryer, large laundry sink, ironing board and iron. There is a full size refrigerator and freezer just outside the entry to the apartment. Enjoy the private garden accessed through a gate on the sidewalk. In the garden is a hot tub that you may use with prior permission and instruction. There is also a chimenea and gas grill you may (not guaranteed) be able to use if you ask in advance. Parking is ample and free. Park anywhere EXCEPT directly across the street. My neighbors enter their gate there, and should have room to park their cars in front of their house. Off street parking available on downhill side of the house. Uber/Lyft within minutes. Rental cars, bikes, and scooters available. Buses and light rail close by. Other things to note Allergy concerns: The apartment is pet free. Linens are 100% cotton. There are down pillows, a down comforter, and a wool rug. (Two synthetic down pillows are also provided.) I dust and vacuum every surface throughly, so the apartment is as dust free as I can get it. There are no mold issues. Outside, there are plants and flowers of every description. If you have specific plant allergies, I'll try to answer questions, but can't guarantee accuracy about exposure.
