McKee City Getaway, The Caroline

This apartment is in the center of downtown McKee near the intersection of Highway 421 and Hwy 89 North. A very small town with one stoplight. There are 14 steps up to the entrance of the apartment with 570 square feet, 2 bedrooms, kitchen with full stove, refrigerator, washer, and dryer. This apartment his somewhat historical in the community having been built in the late 1940s. The space This apartment is in a commercial building built in the late 1940’s originally as the McKee Theater. Built by my wife’s great grandparents, “Bud” and Mattie Hughes, they operated the movie theater for approximately 10 years. Bud and Mattie then began operating a series of Drive-Inns in Jackson, Madison and, Fayette counties and converted the theater into an S&T hardware store. “The Caroline” has been home to a law office and later a dentist office before being rented out as an apartment.
