Jumbo Guesthouse on the Mekong Room 1
Description
My guesthouse is a natural beauty, art and culture, and nature point. You’ll love my place because of the breathtaking views of this exquisite waterfront property overlooking the famous Mekong River. JUMBO GUESTHOUSE is an ideal stop over for short or long stay travelers, solo female and male travelers, families, retired travelers, LGBTQ, bikers, overlanders and digital nomads. It is a place where people of all origins, races and religions and sexual orientation are absolutely welcome. The space YOUR DREAM DESTINATION IN LUANG PRABANG Situated in a uniquely beautiful spot on the riverbank of the Mekong, the house is located 6 km outside of Luang Prabang city center. It’s ideal for people who would like to escape the touristic hustle of the town. Ban Done Kao is an almost rural village in the outskirts of Luang Prabang. Here you can still feel the authentic traditional Lao spirit. The Mekong – in Laotian the “mother of all rivers” is the destination of your dreams! On our terrace, which features an impressive view over the river you can feel its energy and strength. Watch the river – the small fishing boats and bigger passenger ships, the green hills and mountains that surround the Mekong – and you will feel like you are part of this natural spectacle – may it be in the morning when the fog rises on the water or in the evening when the sky takes on a multitude of different colors every day. Monica, your host is Austrian and has been living in Laos for 18 years. She lives in the house herself and speaks German, English, and a bit of French. She will be happy to provide suggestions for things to do in Luang Prabang and northern Laos and can answer your questions with regards to the country, its people, and their culture. She is also a passionate cook and is famous for her homemade delicious jams all over Luang Prabang. Every Wednesday, she offers "La Mama Dinner", hosting interesting people from all over the world for a delicious dinner (6pm - 10pm), which you are welcome to join! DESCRIPTION OF THE HOUSE 3 bedrooms all of them with simple ensuite heated shower, sink with vanity, and WC. All of them are equipped with AC and fan. There is also a large upstairs veranda and sitting area (25 sq. meters), a good place to work with our high-speed internet or to spend time with your children (child-friendly area with a little gate in front of the stairs to keep toddlers safe). Upon prior arrangement you can prepare or warm up simple meals in my pantry kitchen in the open living space. There is also a big table overlooking the Mekong - the ideal workplace, not only for digital nomads. The terrace invites you to meditate or do yoga in the morning. We have cats and dogs. This accommodation is particularly suitable for animal lovers. There is a local restaurant available at my neighbor, open every day until 6pm. DESCRIPTION OF THE OUTSIDE There are two scenic terraces directly overlooking the Mekong and luscious gardens surrounding the entire property, inviting you to meditate or do yoga. There is also direct access to the Mekong with a sandy beach just a short walk down the stairs from our terrace. The house is a short ride from the city center (6km) roughly 20 min. by tuk tuk / taxi or 25min by bicycle. A gated parking area is located in front of the house, where you can safely park your car/motorbike/bicycles. For long term parking of cars/vans/motorbikes, a small fee might apply. If you'd like to rent a scooter, bicycle or electric scooter, we have good contacts in town who can bring the scooter to you and pick it up once you no longer need it. Guest access You have a private room with air conditioning and ensuite bathroom with a heated shower. There are many chairs, tables, and outdoor areas to sit, work, and read a book, or to do yoga - or to just enjoy the lush gardens and breathtaking views over the Mekong. During your stay I am available to offer tourist advice, arrange taxi drivers, and prepare meals for my guests for an additional fee. We have sociable cats and dogs. An ideal place for animal lovers. Sorry, no. This is not a place for people who are afraid of animals or are allergic to animals. Other things to note I'm a local of Laos for 18 years. Social anthropologist by trade and love sharing stories with people from all over the world. We like to keep JUMBO GUESTHOUSE as environmentally friendly as possible. We avoid to use single use plastic and encourage our guests to do the same. You can always refill your water bottles for free with cold and fresh water.
