Casita de los Arroyos is part of a classic Pueblo style adobe compound 23 minutes south of Santa Fe on the Turquoise Trail. It is located on 13 acres of contemplative high desert. A spacious living area includes a sleeping alcove with a comfortable queen sized bed and a single sized pullout sleeping couch. The kitchen has a gas stove, refrigerator, and microwave with a gas grill on the patio. We are an ecofriendly facility, recycling and composting. There is a one time $25.00 dog fee, no cats. There is a spacious, light filled studio next to the casita that is available for play/meditation/yoga. There is a ping pong table, bumper pool, yoga mats, and six tables with chairs for games, puzzles or meetings. Contact us if you want to have a meeting, otherwise it is for casual use for the guests of the casita. The casita has its own gated patio with views of the arroyos and distant mountains but feel free to explore all of the 13.5 acres. The main house has patios on three sides that take advantage of the different views. Explore the property but it is wild land-be aware of your surroundings. There are snakes, including rattlesnakes, that usually will try to get away from people. The rocky outcroppings are beautiful but too unstable to climb. Several arroyos meet to form wetlands at the bottom. It is a designated national wetland area with large cottonwoods and green vegetation when all else is desert brown. Lesley or I will be available for questions, help and sharing our delight in this high desert landscape. We are located on the Turquoise Trail just 23 minutes south of Santa Fe. It is 30 minutes to the Plaza in the center of the old town. Right near us are many interesting things to explore from the petroglyphs of La Cieneguilla to the unique art community of Madrid. Just minutes from the property is Amigos de Cerrillos Hills State Park where you can explore old mines and hike the trails. There is a car pass for Los Cerrillos State Park three miles south on Rt. 14. This park has hiking trails with well marked old mines from the 1860's when Cerrillos was a boom town. Be sure to stop in the Blackbird Saloon to experience a local bar that has been restored to it's 1864 splendor.Their food is delicious. If you want to go into Santa Fe there is always something going on at the San Francisco Plaza in the center of old town during the summer months of July and August. There is a large hotel, La Fonda, close to the plaza that has music every night. It is pleasant to have a margarita and listen for a bit. A little way down the Turquoise Trail is Madrid, another old mining town. It is now an art/alternative lifestyle sort of place with lots of shops, galleries and a few restaurants. The Hollar is the best place for food. If you like petroglyphs go to the La Cieneguilla Petroglyph site about ten miles from us on BLM land. It has amazing petroglyphs dating from 8,000 BCE. It is difficult walking so wear good hiking shoes. Late afternoon or early morning is the best time to go since it is too hot in the middle of the day and you are more likely to encounter rattlesnakes then. Take water. There is a guest pass to four of the great museums in Santa Fe; Museum of International Folk Art New Mexico Museum of Art New Mexico History Museum (Palace of the Governors) Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. In our experience if anyone in the group has a museum pass they will often let your whole group in for free. There is a car pass for Los Cerrillos State Park three miles south on Rt. 14.
